Some sweet calculations done by Deekshith on February 17th determine the present height of Palais Royale, and how long it would take an object to fall down the huuuge atrium:

Present height: 300 m (+the final 5 floors +20 m for the crown with transparent roof that's U/C)

It would take an object nearly 7 seconds (6.7 s) to fall down the 220 m atrium and hit the ground!

Deekshith used the relief displacement method and angle of tilt, and we see the 300 m Worli TV Tower is now the same height as Palais Royale.
The final five floors and 20 m crown with transparent roof will be the final addition.

Like this. This is not an accurate method of calculating the height of building but gives satisfactory results if the image is taken from same height with same angle of tilt.
Here the distance between the top and bottom of PR is almost equal to TV tower (152m). So, we can say it is approximately 300m in tall.

@ Rushab.
Boss you are taking "g" as velocity .... to calculate time taken by an object with known acceleration use this formula.

t=sqrt(d/0.5a)
t=sqrt(220/4.9)
So t=6.7s or say 7s considering air resistance.

Is this India's first supertall? Probably would've preferred Namaste to be first... this building isn't a stunner. Supertalls with glass look best!

A comparison on progress made on the top of Palais Royale (hope the cladding picks up its pace as well).

Thanks for your comment.
Let's wait till this building gets completed... you may well be surprised when the mounted transparent roof gets done and the eye-popping 220 m atrium is complete!!
Also, the cladding may turn out truly intriguing.

Awesome updates, India101.

The Palais Royale looks simply beautiful!

I guess these photos were taken from the Aer Bar...

Ik don't like the design of the tower itself, but in its shape it is very impressive. There should be some more of these towers in this area, so they can form all together a massive skyline.

There are two categories of skyscrapers - sleek 'n' ubermodern and classical 'n' monstrous. Like the Standard Oil building in Chicago, Palais Royale falls in the category of classical 'n' monstrous skyscrapers. They are bulky bad boys (B3) but definitely not ugly!

You just might be right, but we have to wait for the final verdict once the construction is complete.

How can anyone comment about the tower which is not even completed.Just wait & watch. it will definitely look better after it's completion & by the way there are hundreds of towers who will beat this one in the race for ugliest.

Way to go, stingrayj, you register in December 2009 and post only twice so far in over 3 years:

Post 1: Shanghai Tower- "what an elegant landmark"

Post 2: Palais Royale- "sorry Indians, but that is possibly the ugliest tower I have ever seen"

Welcome to SSC!

weird, if I didn't know, I would never guess that first photo was taken 300m up a building!
