Kelantan kekal rekod 19 tahun sifar rasuah Md Noor Yahya
Thu | Oct 22, 09 | 7:09:08 pm MYT

Anggota Exco Kerajaan Negeri, Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah berkata, walaupun pihak-pihak tertentu berusaha untuk memburuk-burukkan wakil rakyat PAS, namun semuanya gagal.

Bajet Kelantan 2010 'Memacu Dalam Hemat'
Mohd Nor Yahya
Sun | Oct 25, 09 | 5:17:59 pm MYT

APA KES BUSYBODY HAL ORG...

Dr Mahathir believes that no leader should stay on too long. — File pic
By Syed Jaymal Zahiid
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today urged PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz to step down, saying that the Kelantan mentri besar is doing more harm than good to the party by overstaying.

His statement, made against the backdrop of a power tussle in PAS, is apparently aimed at driving a deeper wedge into a party that is already split between factions keen on co-operating with Umno and those committed to Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

"He's been PAS leader for too long. He has overstayed his post and when you do that, you tend to get a bit senile... like me," Dr Mahathir said in jest at a press conference.

"I believe that no leader should stay on too long because if you do, you tend to become kolot (conservative)," he said, adding that was what people had called him when he stayed on as prime minister for 22 years.

Nik Aziz had recently made a bold call for PAS to hold a special assembly to oust “problematic” leaders, a statement believed to be targeted towards the pro Umno-PAS co-operation faction led by party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

The PAS spiritual leader believes Hadi's faction, consisting of deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa, party secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali and Selangor chief Datuk Dr Hasan Ali, was hampering closer ties with its PR allies.

His statement rocked PAS and precipitated another crisis just after it barely survived Umno's attempt to split the pact by courting Hadi's faction.

Though Dr Mahathir seemed to be at odds with the whole "unity government" talks with PAS, the former premier however appears to be siding Hadi on this one.

He, just like other Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders, said Nik Aziz is a stooge to his sworn enemy, PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"He wants to get rid of Hadi because he is under Anwar and Hadi wants to try and co-operate with Umno."

But Dr Mahathir is not all for co-operation with PAS either. He said for it to happen, both parties must "give and take".

"But Umno wants to take and PAS don't want to give... so how?" said the former premier with a smile.

Kelantan, Perak tercicir

Oleh WAN FAKHRUL BAKAR
wanfakhrul@kosmo.com.my

Kelantan to get oil royalty

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 — The mood was exuberant among PAS officials in Parliament last night, and rightly so. They received word that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was likely to announce today that the federal government has decided to pay the Kelantan state government some form of oil royalty — an issue that PAS-controlled state has been fighting for since 2001.

That is the good news. The not-so-good news is that Kelantan is likely to receive a much smaller sum than the RM1 billion which it claims constitutes 5 per cent of the earnings from petroleum and liquefied natural gas extracted from Kelantan’s offshore since 2004.

The oil royalty issue was first brought up by PAS’s Husam Musa in 2001. This year, the issue was raised by PAS MPs in Parliament again, as Kelantan was found listed in the Statistics Department's State/District Data Bank as one of the four oil- and gas-producing states.

The other states are Sabah, Sarawak and Terengganu that receive yearly 5 per cent royalty from the federal government. These three states are under the control of Barisan Nasional while Kelantan has been in the hands of PAS since 1990, giving rise to the view that the government’s reticence to share any royalty with Kelantan was coloured by politics.

The federal government has argued that oil and gas activity is located about 150km off Kelantan shores and is jointly developed with Thailand. The area is disputed by Thailand and Malaysia.

A school of thought within the government has steadfastly resisted any softening of the federal government’s position while others believe that much goodwill can be extracted by the BN government if it offers Kelantan some payment for resources taken from within its borders.

The doves seem to have won the day but it is unclear if the PAS government will go away pleased with the amount of oil royalty or goodwill payment announced today.

For Najib, this was an easy decision to make. It presents an opportunity to show that he is willing to look beyond politics, sometimes. Saying no would have made his "I am the prime minister of all Malaysians'' sound hollow.

Kelantan reinstated into the Super League after paying their debts
PETALING JAYA: Kelantan have been reinstated in the Super League next season.

The Kelantan FA (Kafa) president, Tan Sri Annuar Musa, said that they had paid up the dues owed to the players and the Employees Provident Fund.

“We have sorted out the matter with the general secretary of the FAM. Whatever money we owed to the players was paid up on Monday,” he said from Kota Baru yesterday.

The FAM general secretary, Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad, confirmed that Kafa had complied with the terms and conditions in a meeting at the Wisma FAM yesterday.

“Kelantan have sorted out the payments but the five others teams remain status quo,“ said Azzuddin.

Kelantan were among the teams who faced expulsion from the Malaysian Super League (MSL) next season for failing to meet the Oct 31 deadline set by the FAM to settle outstanding debts. The others are Super League teams Penang and Perak and Premier League sides Shahzan Muda, Malacca and Pahang.

And two clubs sides, UPB-MyTeam and Proton, chose to withdraw from competitions next season.

Besides having to settle their dues, the teams were also required to meet new conditions set by the FAM.

Super League sides need a minimum budget of RM2.5mil and they have to be able to deposit RM150,000 with FAM. And Premier League teams should have a minimum budget of RM1.5mil and a deposit of RM100,000.

Teams were also required to produce a letter of undertaking from their sponsors.

The FAM council, headed by Sultan Ahmad Shah, have yet to confirm the date of their next meeting.

The Super League next season are now left with 12 teams – Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Kuala Muda Naza, KL Plus, Johor FC, Kelantan and promoted sides T-Team Terengganu, Johor and Harimau Muda A.

There are 10 teams remaining in the Premier League – Sabah, Sarawak, Police, Armed Forces, PKNS, Kuala Lumpur, KL Pos, Harimau Muda B, Tambun Tulang and Felda United.

Kelantan tetap warnai Liga M
Oleh RODELIO JUNJUN TAUCAN
rodelio.taucan@utusan.com.my

LKIM's Complex In Tok Bali Set To Open Despite Setbacks

By Wan Muhamad Wan Adam

PASIR PUTEH, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- The Fisheries Complex in Tok Bali, Pasir Puteh earmarked to transform the lives of the local fishing community, is yet to see the light of the day.

The complex is among the mega projects under the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) development programme and it belongs to the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM).

The complex is supposed to serve as an economic growth centre for Pasir Puteh and change for good this fishing township located close to the coastline.

Nevertheless, the complex that was supposed to start operations after Aidilfitri could only start operations next year due to technicalities as pointed out by LKIM's Deputy Director General, Mohad Khazin Hamzah.

"This is because problems in the electrical wiring that is yet to be sorted out by the contractor who was given the tender," he said when met here.

But the woes doesn't stop there, despite the noble aims, locals see the development of the complex and the surrounding area being very slow.

The RM80 million complex has a myriad of facilities including special areas to land fish, wharfs, processing centre for fish based products, sales centre, subsidised diesel/petrol and administrative offices.

BUILT IN PHASES

The complex is located on a 40 hectare site and is built in several phases since the last five years. It is located at a strategic area about one kilometer from the South China Sea and is accessible through the Terusan Semerak.

However, Mohad is confident of the complex's invaluable contribution to the local economy once its starts operations.

Mohad expects the complex to be patronised daily by more than 1,000 people especially fish wholesalers from all over Kelantan and certain parts of Terengganu to source fresh fishes at reasonable prices.

The Tok Bali Complex has many advantages compared with its counterpart in Kuantan and Terengganu especially when comes to the volume of fishes that can be landed.

He said between 300 and 400 deep sea fishing vessels and the coastal fishermen at present land their catch at various locations but when the complex starts operations they would have no choice but to land their catch there.

COMPLEX OPENS OPPORTUNITIES FOR FISHERMEN

The complex area also has 15 sites to accommodate projects that will be implemented under ECER to boost the economic growth of the area.

He pointed out that the complex provides greater opportunities for poor fishermen to work and do business there.

The poorer section of the fishing community there will have the opportunity to own better houses through the housing programme for the hardcore poor costing RM27 million.

Apart from this, the development of the area is expected to move into high gear when the new 10km road from Alor Pasir is completed. Work on the road was abandoned several times as the contractors failed to adhere to the regulations.

The road costing more than RM60 million will span across Sungai Semerak and is expected to make life easy for dwellers in Jajahan Machang, Kuala Krai and Tanah Merah including Jeli as it cuts the traveling distance by almost five kilometres from Tebing Tinggi to Tok Bali.

Meanwhile, the Semerak Fishermen's Association Chairman Datuk Mohd Jelani Jaafar hoped the complex will start operations immediately without anymore delays and excuses.

LOCALS CAN'T WAIT FOR THE COMPLEX TO

"We want the complex to be opened immediately, we have waited patiently all this while, we too want to get a taste of real development and don't want it to be delayed any further," he said.

He said the fishing community including those from Besut, Bachok, Kota Baharu, Tumpat and Semerak has been landing the fishes daily at private jetties all over the place without any proper amenities.

Mohd Jelani who was the former Barisan Nasional's state assemblyman for Semerak noted that the complex will be very useful especially during the rainy season from November to January.

The complex will provide a safe place for boats to anchor especially during rough seas.

However, a brief study conducted by Bernama found that locals are unhappy with the state of the Tok Bali town and the development projects are just too slow.

Moreover, the fisheries complex is not expected to bring down the prices of the fishes to the locals as even now their prices are no different than in Pasir Puteh or Kota Baharu.

A housewife Nik Aishah Nik Hassan, 48, from Kampung Sungai Kelong, Pasir Puteh provided an example that the ikan kembung (mackerel) is sold in Tok Bali at RM9 per kilo at the Pasir Puteh Main Market and in the nearby Seri Aman without significant difference in the price and quality.

"To save cost it is better that I buy them at the Pasir Puteh market as I need not travel all the way to buy the fishes in Tok Bali," she said.

The manager of Syarikat Perikanan Laut Dalam Jet-7 (M) Sdn Bhd, Abdul Rahman Hamat stressed that the company has never raised the prices of fishes and has maintained the prices with the ikan kembung selling between RM7 and RM8 per kilo.

He said the increase in prices is due to some unscrupulous middlemen who buy the fishes immediately after they are landed and sell them at high prices to nearby consumers for a quick profit.

Sunday is a public holiday for Kelantan

KOTA BARU: Kelantan have declared Sunday as a state holiday to mark the team’s appearance in the Malaysia Cup final against Negri Sembilan at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob declard Sunday a state holiday “to celebrate Kelantan’s historic appearance in the final of the Malaysia Cup after 39 years”.

“It is an incentive for the people of Kelantan to go and support the team in Bukit Jalil. As for the players and officials, the state government will bear the cost of their umrah package and also provide cash incentives for making it to the final,” he told reporters here yesterday.
