Cult will do very well here i think, i would fail to see it as a chavy brand which is a great selling point for the normal non chavs out there! Henleys on the other hand is the chav must have at the mo, now that is overpriced branded clothing!

Judging by the amounts of views threads get i'm sure there's a whole bunch of people lurking them, it'd be nice for a few of them to join up to give a better representation of the people of Hull.

As for not typical of Hull, I'd agree.... The people on this forum are on the whole positive about new developments and seem relatively educated! As for clothing it's all personal choice.. As I pointed out earlier it's the branding your buying at £25+ but at v.low prices you're offsetting quality for cost... Personally I'll always go for quality over cost... But let's get back to the point... A new retail offering is good news. By the way, has anyone got any opinion on how the "fashion week" has been going? Works got in the way of visits to the city centre... Bar the weekly visit to Tescos... |

Girl, 15, has emergency operation after tongue piercing
Reece-Marie Hall, 15, had emergency surgery after having her tongue pierced at Classic in Savile Street A teenage girl needed emergency surgery after having her tongue pierced. Reece-Marie Hall was taken by ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary after a vein apparently ruptured. The girl paid £15 for a silver bar piercing at Classic, in Saville Street, Hull city centre to celebrate her birthday. But the 15-year-old, of north Hull, was left with blood dripping from her mouth. She told the Mail "At first my tongue didn't bleed, but after I left the shop was tongue started pouring with blood. I kept choking." Reece-Marie returned to the piercing shop, where staff gave her some gauze. She later called into Body Art in Princes Quay Shopping Centre, where she was earlier refused a piercing because she did not have parental consent. Staff instructed her to go to hospital. Reece-Marie, of north Hull, said: "I went home to my mum who called an ambulance. I was really scared." On reaching hospital, Reece-Marie was immediately sent for surgery to remove the piercing stuck in her tongue. She said: "The doctors put me to sleep using an oxygen mask, which kept filling up with blood, and they surgically removed the bar." Her mother Leeanne Hall, 35, said: "I called an ambulance and Reece-Marie was taken to hospital while I tried to find someone to look after my two young boys. "I had a phone call off the surgeon saying I would have to come down straightaway and sign a consent form for surgery. "When I got there I nearly passed out there was so much blood. "Reece-Marie now has a lisp and I can't always understand what she's saying. I hope it isn't a permanent thing." Reece-Marie, who also has trouble eating following her ordeal, is on three types of medication. She said: "I am taking iron because I lost too much blood and I am also on antibiotics and paracetamol. "My tongue is not as swollen as it was, but it has stitches in it and it's very painful." The Mail contacted Steve Rowe, of Classic, who confirmed he carried out the piercing. But he blames the teenager for her ordeal, insisting she must have "interfered" with the piercing after leaving the shop. He said: "She was on our premises for at least 10 minutes after she had the tongue pierced, she paid me and she left happy. "She didn't come back for about half an hour, and when she did I applied minimal pressure for about one minute and the bleeding did stop. "But she wouldn't leave it alone and kept making it worse. I think she took the bar out herself and put another bar in. She didn't like the size of it." Mr Rowe said he was adamant he had not caused Reece-Marie's injury. He said: "I have been doing this for 30 years and before I puncture the tongue I check for veins and turn away two to three people a day because their veins are in the way. "It's a mystery, because she stayed on the premises for 10 minutes after with no ill effects." A spokesman for Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust confirmed Reece-Marie was admitted into hospital and underwent emergency surgery. A spokesman for Hull City Council said its Environmental Health department had been informed about the incident. Tattooing and piercing parlours are covered by the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provision) Act 1982. Under the act, people offering tattooing and piercing need to be registered with the local authority, as do the premises. The act covers sterilisation procedures on the premises and looks at the cleanliness of operations. However, unlike tattoos, legal guidelines do not impose a minimum age for body piercings. Tracy Harsley, head of Citysafe at Hull City Council, said: "There is no lower age limit for skin piercing, but when we register operators who provide piercing services we recommend they don't pierce young people under the age of 16 without consent from a parent or carer." Reece-Marie's mother said she was surprised her daughter was able to get her tongue pierced. She said: "I didn't think she would be able to get it done because she's under 16, but I understand she told the guy in Classic she was 16 years old and he believed her." East Hull solicitor Neil Hudgell confirmed his legal firm had been instructed by the family and they are considering a legal claim against Classic. --------------------------------------------------------------- Could be one less shop on Savile Street soon. I saw a group on Facebook demanding 'Classic' be shut down, about a week or so ago. Lots of messages on the wall saying they'd had piercings and tattoos go wrong there and said the guy never asks for age of consent and pervs on all the girls and acts real seedy towards women etc |

the whole article is a joke: "she now has a lisp" was she having the tongue pierced to improve her diction then?? and she now has to shock horror take an over the counter paracetamol and an iron tablet in the short-term...hardly like she's in a critical condition is it. The Hull Daily Mail shouldn't be allowed to wreck someones business reputation so quickly like that without investigating the facts. quite why everyone in Hull wishes to go round pierced and tatooed all over like they're in some jungle tribe remains a mystery to me! |

The discount bookshop in Prospect Centre is closing down. Strange really as it always seems fairly busy but i suppose at £2 a book takings cant be that high.

I'd take that with a pinch of salt - they're the type that are always having 'closing down sales'

'Cult will put Hull on retailers' radar' MORE retailers could be attracted to Hull by the opening of fashion store Cult, according to the chief executive of the group behind the chain. Speaking exclusively to the Mail, Julian Dunkerton, who is also the founding partner of SuperGroup plc, says he is keen to highlight any success the fashion store has in Hull, with other shops certain to "pick up on it". Cult opened last week at St Stephen's shopping centre on Ferensway. The shop, stocking the hugely successful and popular brand Superdry, occupies a prominent 7,800sqft unit at the front of the centre. Mr Dunkerton told the Mail he believed Cult would lure both shoppers and other retailers to Hull. He said: "We are offering a real point of difference for Hull. "Cult is a destination store and I am absolutely convinced people will divert to Hull as a result. "Generally where we go other retailers follow – it starts a whole chain reaction. "As long as it goes well in Hull, I will be putting that message out in the press and other retailers will pick up on it. "It will put Hull on their radar." |

Regarding Cult again...
I'm 24-years old. As a sensible human being I could simply not justify spending £35 on a t-shirt or £175 on a jacket I could get for much less from another retailer. There is nothing to suggest that a £175 jacket from Cult is any better than a £60 jacket from another high street retailer. In most cases you are paying a lot more money for the popular label and nothing else. I think I dress quite well and don't look like a tramp but at the same time am not bothered whether or not my clothes are 'in' or whether my t-shirt has a little crocodile on it. I do support high quality retailers coming to Hull.

Just as StStephens has finally filled its most prominent unit...they go and undo all the good work by allowing a market stall selling pick and mix outside the centre!
what is with all the tat stalls? surely they can't be bringing in that much revenue?...not compared to how much they cheapen the centre's image. |

Perhaps these concerns should be voiced to the manager of the centre. Seems like a legitimate enough complaint to me. Even a justification for the presence of the stalls would be nice.
Also, the St Stephens website seems to have been redesigned since I was last on there, though I don't doubt I'm a bit behind on that one. |

More opinions from the people of Hull ? Ok here's mine
Cult will be a great addition to the city and will do very well . Personally I won't be shopping there but at the wrong side of 40 I don't really do fashion and have no interest in looking like everybody else . You might be surprised how many people in the city are into 'labels' and how many go to Leeds or Manchester for things that aren't available in Hull . £25 for a T-shirt is not a problem , nor £175 for a jacket . As for the person talking about sweatshops in India and China regarding Tesco and Primark , where do you think every other retailer gets their clothes made ? Is the gym open yet ? |
