This feels like the essence of Latin America.

Spanish speaking, tropical, mountainous, multiracial, strong presence of poverty, urban..

Only pics of the 'poor' zones of the city? Medellín is too much more, but anyway there are some good pics.

I went to El Poblado but it was at night.

Afterwards, I mostly visited the center and the areas you saw in the photos. I took a few photos of some middle class areas next to the center but they came out blurry. I still posted one of them though, the clearest one, it's n49.

I see as well that a lot of comments here are focalized on "poverty". I have to precise that I took these photos at a time when I was living in another latin american city. These kind of semi-constructed brick houses and buildings were the absolute norm last year of what I was used too and they did not come to represent "poverty" anymore (although yes "poverty" was associated with other urban forms).

Now that it has been almost six month that I am back in Europe, I can see how many people could have interpreted these photos. The point however was clearly not to make a point on "poverty" through miserabilist and voyeurist pictures, just to show a city as close as possible to what I saw when I walked it's streets.

The local government in Medellin is trying to improve and modernize the city. Please put some pictures up of the different initiatives going on to improve infrastructure, parks, schools, libraries, community centers, sports arenas, roads, etc that are currently being made and improved on to especially benefit the poor and the city as a whole.

About the thread, I hope it shows the whole medellín city... not just this poor part (which is not bad, just it is not the whole city).
This is Eklips the one posting pictures, so do not spect much. He's like always trying to show how poor LatAm cities are. If you are waiting to see some pics of nicer and/or richer districts or comunas from Medellin, i think would be better if you wait for it seated as he won't.

I kind of apreciate and consider this as a useful way of showing the fact and "real thing" on LatAm cities, but anyhow wouldn't mind on a more democratic and real show.

But well this is Eklips thread not mine, and this is his stile and mood, not mine either.

Half of these photos were taken in the city center, hardly a try to make the city "look poor". Sorry for not taking pictures of malls and parking lots...
