Asia (reportedly) has more viewers of the World Cup than Europe does. So having it at this timezone suits the 'majority'.

But the sponsorship/TV revenue comes massively from Europe?

Gosh Was that Football

Was that football?
Seems they were in the mood of OZ rule football, manhandling/ball handling.
Again a Red Card.
Virtually out of Tournament.
May be 32nd.

what abysmal aspirations? If FIFA is serious about spreading the game, then it will have Australia host, just like they had the US host in 1994, heck back then there was very little aspirations or anything with the US and soccer.

There again, expecting courtesy/consideration/consolation but not on true capabilities to host.
Wish there was a humble second fiddle. Like : Manchester/Sydney together against Beijing for 2000 Summer Games to ensure votes of anti XXXX bid be garnered.

Uh, Sydney won 2000. Manchester got nowhere near it.

We are capable, if FIFA is SERIOUS, then they will give us a chance to host. Let the US fight it out with say Mexico and possibly Canada for 2026.

Australia has done themselves a mass favour by withdrawing 2018 and telling Europe they can have it and giving themselves points with a Euro strong FIFA that they can have 2022, its a gamble but hopefully it can pay off

May be u were not born during 1993 bid, there was pact btwn Manchester/Sydney that who ever lost first would mobilise their votes/voting Member NOCs to vote for the one still left in the race still could manage to win only by 2 votes.
Moreover Beijing was the leader in all the initial rounds.
Even when IOC declared the Games, they started with " Beijing the capital of China .... lost..... and Sydney....hosts the 2000"
This was a teaser even from IOC.
Samaranch when questioned what if there was a tie of 44 in final.
He showed his inclination to Sydney.
This clearly showed the bias towards Western Nations.

So pls come out of the illusion that Sydney won on its singular strength.
In the modern day, it would be difficult for any Australian city to win a bid if not for a war torn region is in contention against it.

Actually, Sydney did win because of it's strengths. It proposed a sound plan with a lasting legacy, which won it the games. The fact that Australia bid twice before and lost had been taken into account as well.

What mobilisation of votes? Bidding cities and nations have no say in voting, it's up to the IOC members to decide that, they clearly thought that Sydney proposed the better bid, which it did. Beijing got it's chance for 2008.

Ignorance is bliss and You are a frog in an Australian Well.
Forget your legacy shit and look back to the history of 93 bid meeting.
Whether you accept it or not, That is the truth and bitter to swallow.

Oh, so now you're implying that we stole the 2000 Olympics somehow.

We don't expect any such thing, for ourselves or for any other bid, as numerous australian members have made clear on the qatar thread. As to why youre expecting FIFA to judge the merits of our bid on the strength of our national team, I don't know. Surely this would rule out india for every single sporting event known to man? (including the commonwealth games?)

And however sydney got the 2000 games, it is widely regarded as one of the best olympics ever. And thats no insignificant achievement in the context of a world cup bid.

If that were true, Seoul 88 and Barcelona 92 should never have happened.
Moreover, those city - zens do not flaunt as much as OZ do.

And the world still regards Barcelona as the best example for legacy and heritage.

What a massive load of crap!

Go back to 1993 and listen to the opening remarks of Samaranch's speech at the Monte Carlo IOC session.
...."The International Olympic Committee would like to thank the 5 bidding cities....Beijing,Berlin,Istanbul,Manchester and Sydney......"

Now...where is this "teaser?"..WTF are you talking about?...When Samaranch mentioned "Beijing" in his comments,Beijing supporters jumped up and down in excitement thinking they have won.Obviously their problem was their own grasp of the English language.

Samaranch favoured Sydney???....Since when?..History shows that Samaranch wanted Beijing. This, from the NY Times in 1993...

http://www.nytimes.com/1993/10/31/sp...1?pagewanted=1

"........Many people had assumed that the most powerful sports figure in the world favored Beijing, China, over Sydney, Australia, to be the host of the Summer Games in the year 2000. That assumption was based on Samaranch's open crusade to draw in the superpowers, to keep them occupied with sport so they cannot make mischief.

Now...You go back and look at the real history of that 1993 vote and get your facts straight.

A quick example for times for an Australian WC in 2022.

Sydney: 2.30pm(AEST) Game Start
Melbourne: 5.30pm (AEST)
Brisbane :8.00 pm (AEST)
Perth :8.30pm (WST)

This would translate to CEST(Central Europe) Time

Sydney Game: 6.30am (Central Europe Time)
Melbourne: 9.30am (CEST)
Brisbane: 12 Midday
Perth: 2.30pm

In other words,Australia can offer WC Games in European times from 6.30am right up until last game ends around 5pm in the afternoon...
