AAMI Park isn't expandable (not that I know of anyway).

AAMI is expandable, but its not cheap - around $150m

given the demand for football, league, and rugby right now, the clubs will work nicely with a 30k stadium - right now they lack the supporter base for something bigger, and without this there will not be the political will to spend the money

that being said, 12 years is a long time

Australia couldn't produce a poor bid for a sports event, even if they tried.

Preparations continue for the UCI World Championships in Geelong from 29 September to the 3rd October.

Started work yesterday putting in barriers-we have 44km of itand did 14 km.
A number of teams went past,German, South African, Canadian, Swiss.
This is not a course for the sprinterssome of the hills we did yesterday in Highton were up to 20% gradient.
It's a great coup for Geelong and a fantastic chance to show the world just what it offers as far as hosting FIFA World Cup matches.
The course will cover the foreshore ,passing possible fan fests sites at Eastern Beach and the Barwon River.
It will also travel along Moorabool Street, most likely route for a Fan Walk

The mens road race will start from Federation Square in Melbourne-also likely to be the starting point of any fan walk in Melbourne to the MCG

The World Cycling Classic will take place in Ballarat this Sunday.
Ballarat will certainly host a team and provide training facilities for an Australian World Cup in 2022

Indeed. Even if highly unlikely Hobart, Tasmania were to bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics, it would have a far more competent team than those bid fanboys and will show a small scale, yet reasonable Hobart bid plan, in the scale of say Barcelona 1992.

Photos taken Friday 24th September 2010
There are more photos in the South Australia section of the Ozscrapers sub-forum of SSC
View of the catwalk above the bubble roof on the new stand..this continues over the entire structure I believe.

First of the seats have been installed…also concreting has begun on the lower bowl

Close-up of the installed seating

View along the Western Stand…middle bubble now covered.

View of the brick work on the side.

the Memorial Drive Tennis Stadium, which has green seating..the same colour as I believe is being installed in the WS

Overall, I thought the progress was very noticeable, its been 3 weeks since I last visited the ground, Perhaps the builders will have the West Stand)proposed name from the Advertiser: the Giffen Pavilion(s)

So you want SA to build a stadium with a roof that doesn't work?

Don't people still get wet because the roof doesn't quite cover properly?

On opening night, Australia vs EnZed in the Rugby League, a whole bunch of fans up 'under the drip line' of the roof got drenched, due to the roof having more leaks than a Labor party election campaign. Only an idiot builds a stadium in Melbourne with a roof that doesn't work! why would we want that in SA?? If it rains at Hindmarsh you get wet(unless you're under the roof of the main stand - which works BTW!), cos there isn't any roof over 3/4 of the stadium no 'false advertising there'
