Yeah, but you're still the farthest away in terms of geographical distance for the European and North American fans...who will still make up the majority of the foreign fans.

And that arduous distance, of course, also means the lowest TV revenues from the European and North American TV markets. So cheap comes at a price.

Australia has hosted the best Olympic games thus far with fantastic crowds, that other Olympics games since have struggled to match. They have also hosted multiple other world cups with pretty much sell out crowds. Australia is also the 8th highest country in terms of tourism receipts. Australia has a fantastic tourism market anyway and obviously a lot of people go to Australia just to see the country and as for TV, I have no idea why that was included because the Asian television audience is already the biggest for the Football World Cup. They are the economies that are growing and by 2020 more than 70% of the world's population will live in Asia. I think FIFA have used an outdated model for that analysis and really it shouldn't affect Australia. I mean are FIFA saying, no Asian country should ever host the world cup then? I'm sorry but South Korea/Japan already did and they pulled in larger audiences than the two European world cups held by France in 1998 and Germany in 2006. So really the statistics tell a completely different story, I'm sure it's just written so that Europe can stamp it's importance still and host the world cup at every opportunity they can.

hardly-they took the easy option. They needed to be seen to be doing something because the Qatari's have had Zen Ruffinen tailed for the last few weeks by Kroll to make sure nothing happened to them in the investigation by EthCo.

Hopefully they still get booted

There are rumors that the executive committee will still be at 24 votes, as Blatter wants 24 members on the panel and Oceania represented for the dual world cup vote.

Explains why Tamirii hasn't appealed
This is only logical, you can't penalise the confederations they represent

New World Cup vote twist as Blatter reveals banned pair could be replaced

KEIR RADNEDGE / Sports Features Communications

ZURICH/LONDON, Nov 19: New uncertainty has been dropped into the chaotic 2018 and 2022 World Cup bid process by FIFA president Sepp Blatter, in revealing that banned Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii could be replaced as voting members of the executive committee.

Blatter dropped out a number of fascinating news notes in a one-man press conference following Thursday's Ethics Committee decision to suspend both members and four former members of the executive.

One was the revelation that the exco was not unanimous in ratifying the decisions of the Ethics Committee, another that one-time general Michel Zen-Ruffinen had been declared persona non grata for his role in the vote-rigging inquiries by The Sunday Times . . . and yet another that the exco may be back up to its full quota of 24 members on December 2.

That is the date on which the exco votes on the destination of host rights for the World Cups of 2018 (between England, HollandBelgium, Russia and Spain/Portugal) and 2022 (between Australia, Japan, Qatar, South Korea and United States).

The likely voting balance has been disturbed by the bans on Nigeria's Adamu and Oceania's Temarii. However Blatter noted: "For the time being we have only 22 voters but when a member of the executive is banned and accepts this ban he must be replaced immediately by the region he comes from. As long as these particular two members say they are going to appeal then the appeals cannot be dealt with before December 2."

Both Adamu and Temarii are now likely to come under some pressure back home to accept their punishments and apply - when the fuss has died down by Congress next spring - for leniency and the bans to be commuted.

This would allow both Confederations - Africa and Oceania - the satisfaction of being fully represented in FIFA's most important decisions for years - decision which could decide the financial and political direction of world football for the best part of the next two decades.

This is an even more critical issue for Oceania than for Africa. The African confederation has four representatives on the FIFA exco but Temarii is the only Oceania member - at a time when the region's minnow status is under scrutiny following Australia's defection to the Asian confederation four years ago.

I was wondering how long it would take for that to be brought up.

If Temari accepts and moves on, we are back in with a slim chance

As for Adamu, any likelihood of him accepting? Also who in would be his most likely replacement at short notice (Jordaan)? Anyone got any idea what his preference is?

Okay guys, can you stop this please. There is no need to be rude. This is supposed to be a fair-play competition and you know quite well that insults and attacks are totally prohibited here.

can we please talk about the bid?

isn't there somewhere more appropriate people can go and abuse each other like this??

Anyway apparently Sepp has opened up the door for the votes to return. If the exco delegates accept their suspension, their confed is allowed to replace them, and the new delegate gets a vote.

Great for us if we can get Oceania back in play, much more a gamble for the CAF delegate
