Oleviste / St. Olaf's church. More of it later...

Medieval warehouse.

City Theatre's stage hole. Inner courtyard accessible from both Lai and Aida street.

Random buildings..

Horse mill. Dates back to early 1300s,when it was used as defensive tower (city wall was not yet built then),by 1379 it had been converted to horse mill. Interestingly it was used only in case of a siege or harsh winter (when city's watermills would not work).

Epping tower.

Plate tower.

Looking towards Oleviste church.

Suurtüki street cuts through city wall. Photo should give you rough idea how thick the wall itself is.

Behind The Grusbeke,Epping,Plate and Rope Hill towers.

Loewenschede,Behind The Nuns and Goldfeet towers.

Loewenschede and Behind The Nuns towers.

Same.

Behind The Nuns and Goldfeet towers (ehh, those crazy names )

Loewenschede tower.

Goldfeet tower.

Sauna and Nuns towers. Yes,there are Nuns and Behind The Nuns towers

I hate cars in the Old Town. Great pics, though.

A bit of OT: Since I just visited Riga(again), the need for a big city feeling grows in me and Tallinn just doesn't have it.

More photos from Patkuli viewpoint,Toompea hill.
A bit wider angle panorama (roughly about 180° view)

Ship on the horizon.

More ships at the sea.

View over Old Town.

Another photo of it.

Tallinn's TV tower is also visible. Note those high buildings on the horizon, left corner of the photo - they are Maardu port's silos (roughly 10-20 km from Old Town)

Right next to Patkuli is Stenbock's house (government house, they hold meetings there, quite familiar site from TV and news)

View towards Patkuli viewpoint from ground level.

Next time you'll see a bit more of Lower Old Town and Toompea hill (I went bit mad there, almost every third photo taken being a panorama ) So,be patient and you'll see those photos...

Issandamuutmise kirik / Church Of The Transfiguration Of Our Lord (orthodox church) Originally Church of Cistercian Order convent (thats where those defensive towers get their nun - themed names),it was converted to orthodox church in 1716. Church is built around 1300s ,it's most visible part - the spire is built in 1776.

View of it from side alley.

More photos from Lai and Pikk streets.

Look, this house has griffins on the roof .

Narrow Börsi Käik / Stock Exchange Passage.

While in Old Town,it's often good idea to peek into small courtyards, which often have really nice and cosy views.

Looking up..

Now showing photos from Kohtuotsa viewpoint. Looking down.. Lai street.

Niguliste / St. Nicholas church is quite nicely visible from here.

Tallinn's highrise cluster.

Another 180° panorama, this time from Kohtuotsa viewpoint.

Next we'll continue on Toompea hill...

I have been in Talllin's old town several times and have seemingly walked it through and through but there are some spots which I never find and always wonder when next time I see photos of those places. For example, this place - where the hell is it? - http://i769.photobucket.com/albums/x.../skyline09.jpg.
Could you post panoramas also in larger sizes? Or at least provide a link to them?

@VelesHomais,ch1le,Singidunum and all others - thank you all

@Vecais Sakarnis - it's actually really easy to find this place It's a view from Mere avenue near the harbour (a small hint - tramlines 1 and 2 run past this photo's location) And about those panoramas - no,not really. I'm using Photobucket, and free version resizes images To give you the idea (I'm using maximum possible options) - Photobucket's current max. width of image being 1024 pixels, while most of my panoramas are atleast 10000+ pixels wide. I know,it sucks but I can't do much about it.

Now let's continue...
Kohtu street.

Again,nice inner courtyard.

Toomkirik / Dome Church / St. Mary's Church (1230-1240) One of the oldest churches in Estonia. Has a rather bloody part in it's history - in 1233 after an angry dispute knights from Livonian Brothers of the Sword order killed all church's monks. This shocked town's people who later addressed letter to pope asking forgiveness and consecration of the church.

Views of the church...

Two views from Bishop's Garden (another viewpoint behind the Dome church)

Pikk Jalg heading to Lower Old Town.

Finnish embassy on the cliff.

Near Toomkooli street.

Another panorama (bit crappy light conditions ) Showing Snelli pond (remaining part of moat that once circled entire city)

Standing right next to Toompea Castle, Pilsticker tower.

Toompea Castle,Landskrone tower.

On my next post you will see more photos of Toompea Castle....

Great photos, but sad that Tallinn isn't fixing up those ugly holes and rundown little corners

Wanted to suggest the same. Imageshack allows up to 3 mb file size. Besides, I would suggest to run away from photobucket as fast as you can. Because when I tried their service some 2 years ago for a short while - I ended up with my pictures being not visible after some weeks. At least then they asked fee for bandwidth, and if it's still the same, if you won't pay, these Tallinn pics won't be visible after some month or so. I had to re-upload all my pics on imageshack afterwards.

Thanks,I'll look into it. Meanwhile these should be few last posts with using photobucket.

In front of Toompea Castle. Some protesters (apparently protesting against nuclear power plant plans,as I later found out from the news) Toompea Castle is Estonian's parliament building so it should explain those protesters.

Castle's gate and Landskrone tower.

Right in front of Castle is Aleksander Nevski cathedral (orthodox church, built 1894-1900) In 1920s there was a serious discussion of demolishing the church (it was built as part of russification plans,to display tzar's and Russian Empire's dominant power in Tallinn)

Photos from Governor's Garden, looking at Nevski cathedral.

Toompea Castle. Castle part built 1227-1430,palace part (pink) built 1767–1773 and parliament building (in the castle's courtyard) is built 1920-1922.

Pikk Hermann / Tall Hermann tower. Height 45 meters.

View from Governor's Garden.

Ze German ambassador's residence ( why isn't he displaying their national colours? ...)

Another look at Finnish embassy .

Talli / Stable Tower.

Virgin's tower and Kiek In De Kök cannon tower.

Danish King's Garden. Stable tower and Short Leg's gate tower.

Lühike Jalg / Short Leg gate tower (during medieval time one of two gates connecting Toompea hill to Lower Old Town.

It's gate doors.

Back at Danish King's Garden. Few photos of Niguliste / St. Nicholas church (built between 1230 and 1420) Suffered heavy damage during 1944 air raid (spire and church burned down, basically only walls were left standing)

Downtown is also visible from here.

Actually, the 182 isn't the German embassy, it's the residence of the ambassador, the embassy is located at Toom-Kuninga 11. See the green arrow: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=59.428...,0.008454&z=17

... and the part in this photo, as well as the park you're standing in, is from 1936 (:

the south wing of the "castle" was in fact designed by alar kotli who a couple of years later started to work on the kadriorg administrative building - note the visual similarity between the 2 buildings http://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kadrior...istratiivhoone
