266 Another interesting sign.

267 Katariina Käik / St.Catherine's Passage. Former Dominican monastery and Katariina church remnants. Built 1246, destroyed by fire in 1531.

268

269 Lots of tombstones are displayed on the passage wall.

270 One such tombstone, most of them are from 14th century.

271

272 Chimney with cat's statue

273 Müürivahe street,Behind The Monks tower.

274 Helleman tower.

275 Few remaining towers of Viru gate. Looking at Viru hotel.

276 That odd sidebuilding attached to tower is actually from 1800s.

277 Modern architecture's invasion to Old Town - De La Gardie shopping center.

278 Viru street,Town Hall's spire visible behind all those houses...

279

280 Olde Hansa restaurant, bit like medieval Disneyland .

281 Interesting building near it.

282 Details...

Viru gates actually don't exist any more. These are pre-gates(?... eesti keeles eelväravad)

And IMO, on of the finest examples of modern architecture in Tallinn.

283 One last look towards Town Hall spire...

284 Corner of Suur-Karja and Väike-Karja streets. Building in the center was Riga-Russian Commercial Bank built in 1912,now it's a hotell. Also Karja streets area was location of another city gate - Karja /Cattle gate (there's no visible trace of it left)

285

286 Sõprus cinema (built 1953 - 1955) and Assauwe tower on the left corner of the photo.

287 Karja streets area has a web of small, narrow streets running in each direction

288 Exiting Old Town.

289 Medieval architecture makes way to 1930s and modernism...

290 Urla building, more widely known as Lastemaailm / Kid's World building (department store for kid's has been there since 1945) Urla building was built in 1932 -1933.

291 Urla building has interesting inner courtyard, with basement level partially opened to sunlight.

292 And finally one last Old Town tower - Hinke tower,in quite bad condition, basically a small 2-storey building from early 1900s is built around it. The green & white Art Nouveau style building next to tower should be from 1924,if I'm correct.

295 Right next to Drama Theatre is Tallinn's Administrative & Circuit Court building. Historical courthouse, built in 1893.

296

297 Inglise Kolledž / English College. Old school building is from 1916,newer gym part is from 2007.

Thank you Tin Can for these thread!
Good work - real discovery even for estonians, (who does not leve in Tallinn, like me for expl. ) A lot of places i have never seen before.
But, why everyone is ignoring the Rocca Al Mare ofice building. No one is posting it in Tallinn dev. thread. It is quite ready, very nice looking glass beauty. I hoped to see it here, but .... it seems like banned.
May be this thread is a rite case to show it to forums public ?

Not really. It has Art Nouveau/Jugend-style elements. Beside's, Art Deco wasn't that common in Europe during that time.

Few photos from Roosikrantsi street.

318 Former Bank Of Tallinn building on the corner of Roosikrantsi street and Kaarli avenue. Building was built in 1997,but as Bank Of Tallinn itself was soon merged with Ühispank (current SEB),it shortly served as Ühispank headquarters until their new HQ was completed (shown on photos 9 to 12). Currently it's used as a office building.

320 Roosikrantsi street 2A. Former hospidal,built in 1904.

321 Another sign.

322 Roosikrantsi street 15. Residential building from 1912.

Black, dark grey and brown were considered a chick and elegant colour back in the days. The buildings have become a lot darker from that time, though .

Did it looked different before it was destroyed in air raid or soviet regime reconstructed opera in its original look?
