Tvm-Chennai Duranto should be converted from Fully A/c to (Non-Ac +Ac) Coach Duranto service instead of denying Duranto to Tvm & Chennai. Patronage will increase for sure.

When there are other Durantos having even lesser patronage & still running, Tvm-Chennai Duranto have been running for only some time but hurriedly targetted for strange reasons, may be bus lobby is behind this move.

Timing is also a problem with current Duronto. If it starts by 8:00 pm from chennai on Friday and return by Sunday evening, it will be better. I agree, patronage is similar for other Durontos running in the state.

In addition, if it takes Nagercoil route, total distance comes down by 100km and journey time lesser by 2 hours, that means total journey in 11 hours or so. Iam sure excellent patronage may result in such a case. And I feel Bus lobby might have played a role in timing and route.

Hello saare, the above trains are not a non stop. Netravathi express availabaility are not from the tvc station alone, it includes the stations from Thiruvananthapuram to KANNUR (21 Stations) and for 12695/96 Chennai express the entire stations under General Quota.

Dont mislead the people by putting wrong informations.

You cleverly skipped the details of LTT-ERS and NZM-ERS details. And FYKI durontos are not aimed to be like regular express trains, so dont expect such a huge waitlist in durontos except between some metro services. You can check other durontos running across the country.

Yes, if you can understand what that means. Any layman will tell it is time to convert those two less patronized Durantos introduced with much fanfare to multiple stop ones & with stops at Kozhikode, Kannur along with further extension south ..

Forget waitlist, berths available even on current day in those two Durantos even after 2 looong years of operation whereas regular express trains go waitlisted. But for Ahmed Saib as MoSR then, these two Durantos would have been normal express trains from KCVL.

Whereas Chennai-Tvm Duranto is only recently introduced by initiative from Railways after they felt need for one but unfortunately some lobby didnot want it to succeed right from day one so they made it fully A/c & run via longer route; if converted to non A/c Duranto in shorter route with better timings, patronage will shoot as initially expected by Railways & as seen by number of buses plying in this route via Nagercoil.

Ernakulam is no better than Trivandrum in giving patronage for Durontos.

GOC, I agree with you only for long distance destinations like Mumbai, Delhi and so forth. Garib Rath type A/C trains or Sampark Kranti type limited stop superfast trains are more suited in these routes than Durantos.

But for medium distance destinations (around 1000km) from Tvm, say Bangalore or Chennai, I dis-agree with you, as Non-A/c Duranto to Tvm will give excellent patronage. Say a Duranto leaving Tvm 6pm and arriving Bangalore/Chennai by 7am next morning will get excellent response.

But beware, the bus lobbies will fight tooth & nail to prevent such convenient trains as in past and let us not underestimate their influence in Railways especially @ SR Zonal HQ.

So in nutshell, for long distance trains viz.to Mumbai/Delhi, it is better suited to run normal superfast/Garib Rath/Sampark Kranti type trains which originate from KCVL to cover major areas of state for maximum patronage. Whereas from Tvm central to medium distance destinations viz. Bangalore & Chennai, there is enough O/D traffic for one Non-A/c Duranto each to these cities along with other regular express trains in these routes. Hence in these routes one each Non A/c Duranto from Tvm needed & justified.

At last, ball set going by Railways for Rs 6 crore rail neer plant to be setup in BOOT mode @ Parashala in Tvm.

Now, waiting for other pending announced projects in past rail budget viz. world class station, Railway medical college, Nemom terminal/coach yard to get started ASAP.

Hence in these routes one each Non A/c Duranto from Tvm needed & justified.

Tri-man, this Duranto targetted for EEP passengers between Tvm & Chennai, hence my suggestion related to that.

If I were to suggest route & possible timings for this Duranto, it would be via shorter route Madurai (798km as compared to 908km via Palakkad) & one possible timing as follows:
Tvm dep: 2200hr Chennai Egmore arr: 900am
Chennai Egmore dep: 1800hr Tvm arr: 500am.

Full occupancy can be expected using Non A/c Duranto in above route/timing.

Well, for now, there are only two durontos to Ernakulam, and not Kochi Durontos as you call out loud.

I gave the avaiability from today in both ERS durontos, and clearly mentioned that LTT has gone to WL in 3AC just the week after diwali holidays. f you cannot understand that much, dont bring up numbers. They are as big a white elephant as TVC duronto if you call it so.

HI Krp, the idea is right, that distance is shorter through MDU. But for now, this idea is not feasible. We have the better picture of fully electrified double line from TVC to Kayamkulam and Ernakulam to Shoranur and beyond, but the TVC-MDU line is partially electrified single line with maximum line capacity. And during the night time, the timings you have proposed, there are atleast one set of trains from each of Tuticorin, Tiruchendur, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Madurai (2), Shencottai, and even Ananthapuri etc to Chennai through Mainline and Chordline which makes it really tough to keep the average speed.
Infact, our own ananthapuri gets least preference in its run at night, as most other trains overtake it, and it has got immense slack time, reaching TVC at 12 :10 now as opposed to 11:00 and 11:30 befor.

GOC, Iam aware of single line section in Madurai-Tvm stretch, that is why I proposed a late night departure from Tvm and early morning arrival at Tvm, during which time I hear slots possible. Trains like Duranto in Chennai-Madurai-Tvm sector can increase importance of this alternative route & may also help in earlier doubling of same.

There are other Durantos in country which ply through similar single line heavy traffic sections like12223/12283 via 760km Konkan railway, 12219 Mumbai-Secunderabad, 12213 Yeshwantpur-Delhi and so forth. Hence a Duranto run through a single line section is very much possible and it may be the bus lobby who spreading such news on imaginary obstacles citing single line etc.

If you remember, when Chennai-Tvm Duranto was being introduced, many news reports quoted saying that this Duranto will be via Madurai and further reports on technical halts at Trichy and so forth. Later, the route suddenly seem to have changed via Erode.

AFAIK, unfortunately Ananthapuri seem to have been tasked with additional responsibility of serving day passengers between intermediate stations of Madurai and Tvm due to non-availability of any intercity trains in this route. Hence, Ananthpuri seem to be made to do double role of Chennai-Tvm overnight service and Madurai-Tvm day service, timings/journey time slowed down accordingly reflect same.
