London ˇ the Southside

This urban gallery presents photos taken in South London, which is perhaps the least-photographed side of London.
More photos will be added in due course!

1. View across Borough SE1. The building under-construction on the far left will be South London's tallest.

2. Palestra, an office building on Blackfriars Road SE1.

3. A shadowed street in North Lambeth SE1.

4. Sunday football in Burgess Park SE5, overlooked by the Aylesbury Estate.

5. The Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster, viewed from the Aylesbury Estate SE17.

6. Canary Wharf at sunrise, viewed from a rooftop in Leathermarket SE1.

7. Goldsmiths College, part of the University of London, in New Cross SE14.

8. Youth football in Sutcliffe Park SE9, in the shadows of the Ferrier Estate.

9. The Ferrier Estate, one of the most notorious places in London, from Sutcliffe Park SE9.

10. The Wyndham Estate in Camberwell SE5, noted for its distinctive style blocks.

11. Youth of the Aylesbury Estate in Walworth SE17, playing football...

12. ...and taking a rest.

13. Decay and regeneration side-by-side in Elephant & Castle SE1.

... more to come.

I´ve always wondered what lies south of the south bank of the Thames. Is there anything to see there at all? (apart from strata )

I know there are many large redevelopment schemes, but currently the southside seems to be rundown estates, roundabouts and Victorian terraces.

great tour, thanks. South London is too often ignored and avoided.

the Imperial War Museum is there, it's my favorite museum in the world; there's also Brixton Academy and some interesting markets.

here's some pics i took of South London 4 years ago

Wimbledon is nice, you have to go south of the river to see Grand Slam tennis.

Elephant & Castle SE1

The district of Elephant & Castle, a major road intersection in inner South London.

1. Statue of a castle on the elephant's back: the Elephant & Castle.

2. Elephant & Castle train station, and part of the southern roundabout of the intersection.

3. Part of the Heygate Estate, a decaying housing project that will soon be demolished.

4. Part of the Rockingham Estate and the white buildings of Metro Central Heights, taken from the Heygate Estate.

5. View of Elephant & Castle, looking north.

6. The three faces of this district: the older stock of housing, the decaying social housing, and the regeneration.

Nice shots, never knew what to expect on the south side of the Thames. Have only been to Greenwich and that's it.

Next time you have the chance to visit London, make sure you tour some spots south of the river

Nice shots!

South London has even got quite nice places such as Richmond/Kew, Greenwich, Blackheath or Crystal Palace (where I live by the way ) and Eltham of course. It's just not as urban as most areas in North London.
