Many houses still, or again, show old houses signs, which were used before numbers were introduced:

This sign shows Gtz von Berlichingen, a famous knight with a iron prosthetic hand, and his famous quote, which can be translated as "kiss my arse":

House to the red b-ottle:

Done. More later.

Amazing photos Karasek, such much beautiful architecture and rich history. I love all the colours used on houses throughout the area, particularly that 'Kurmainzische Packhof' - that is one stunning buiding. I was drawn to this thread because I live in Townsville (Australia), and until amalgamation in 2007 the western section of the city used to be know as Thuringowa, named after the German state of Thuringia because that is where the first chairman hailed from

Absolutely wonderful tour of the city centre. Looking on Birds Eye View I see there seem to be plenty of "Gruenderzeit" suburbs.

this thread (and the city as it seems judging by the pics ) is such a jewel, it needs to get back on page one

Next stop Bad Langensalza, a small town unknown even to most Germans. Bad Langensalza was first mentioned in 932 and relatively unimportant throughout its history. Today it is a nice spa town with a preserved town center. Hermann von Salza, the fourth Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, came from Bad Langensalza.

The outer parts of the old town are a bit run down:

The Klagetor, part of the preserved town wall:
