The "new" (actually renewed old) terminal opened today, as well as the new centralized security checks.

(Little detail: can someone change the thread title from "ZHR" to "ZRH"?)

Have they dropped the name "Kloten" from the name of the airport? Making the Dutch speaking travellers laugh so much! Francis

Went to Zurich last month for 5 days, and I can honestly say that's the best airport I've ever been in!

And can you explain why you think so? ... have you been to airports such as Singapore, KL, Seoul or HongKong, or are you comparing mainly to other European or North American airports?

Well I've been to a few airports in North America, also Sydney and Singapore, and plenty of airports in Europe and there's a couple of reasons why Zurich airport impressed me so much. The shopping choices that the airport offers is incredible, you buy so many ranges of items, from mobile phones to frozen pizzas, it's got everything. When you leave the shopping/recreational area, you go through security and get on a very impressive automated train that brings you to the gates. When waiting on your flight, it might be very busy with people but it seems so quiet and relaxing (really good acoustics). Also the transport connections to the City are second to none. You've got a range of S-Bahn lines that brings you to Zurich Hauptbahnhof in less than 15 minutes, as well as tram lines. I would love to see Hong Kong's Airport but Zurich is my favourite I've been to so far.

Interesting! ... so it's more the 'convenience factor' generally than the 'wow factor' from say an architectural sense. The architecture is the main thing for me, and I really am in awe whenever I travel through say Singapore or KL or HK - I think those are fantastic airports. But I will keep an eye (and an ear) out should I fly to Zurich next time!

I've noticed that my ticket to Zurich doesn't specify which terminal I'm arriving to or departing from. Is there just one major international terminal or is it unusual? I'm flying Swiss airlines from NYC to ZRH then to KBP

You should be arriving to Terminal "E" ( I flew that route multiple times). Not sure about departure gate to KBP although. You might end up taking skytrain to transfer between terminals. Check the information screen at ZRH for gate departure.

Normally KBP is also at terminal E. It's the non-Schengen terminal.
