No it is not a surprise. They have so many in their fleet already and more are joining so they have to find a way to use them all.

But it was good when i used it in 1992 with swissair between brazzaville and paris.
Friendly airport.

Small? It's in the top twenty of international passengers.

Why is that? Is it the banking system or is there another reason? If it is the banking sector that attracts passengers, what will happen when CH starts cleaning up their banking rules

There is surely a lot of business passengers. But it's an exaggeration that they are all in the banking sector.
Quote:
In 2003, the financial sector comprised an estimated 11.6% of Switzerland's GDP and employed approximately 196,000 people (136,000 of whom work in the banking sector); this represents about 5.6% of the total Swiss workforce.

The real reason for it's decent size are the high international interconnections of Switzerland and the fact that airport is not only serving Zürich but actually most of the country.

I wouldn't argue that it is a large/huge airport either, rather I would say that it is a medium sized international airport. Certainly not a small airport.

I'm always surprised with people who really believe that Swiss economy is based only on banking sector and watch manufacturing. Many of them use different products of Swiss origin and they even don't know how much these products have an influence on our lifes.

was at ZRH last month, indeed this is a very nice airport.

had a chance to fly SQ's big mama.

apparently there is no upper deck avio bridge at ZRH as all the upper deck pax have to walk to the front and going down the stairs near the suites before exiting through one of the lower deck doors.

train from sattelite terminal E to the main terminal

Zürich International Airport will analyse the reduction behind medium aircraft in low-visibility operations with the help of Airbus ProSky as it aims to improve its efficiency during adverse weather conditions. With Airbus ProSky, Zürich Airport will be able to model its environment with a high level of accuracy and the geometry of disturbances on the ILS signal in 3D.
