They probably anticipate having to close the other end of the platforms at some point and intend to have trains stop further up.

Could we have more interior shots of the WTC Hub, please?

I can see really good progress here - now I imagine the scale. This how it was in 2011:

And this is now:

They made 'open air' platforms. Thanks, Nexis

PATH Train Less Efficient Than Subways as Cars Cover Loss

By Martin Z. Braun Aug 22, 2014 12:00 AM ET
‘Intense Inspection’

In addition, every 90 days all of PATH’s rail cars undergo a three-day inspection at a facility in Harrison, New Jersey. Brakes, lights, communications, heating and air conditioning, signals and odometers are all checked, Marino said.

“It’s a very intense inspection on every piece of rolling stock,” he said.

Although the Port Authority has tried to switch its regulator to the Federal Transit Administration, the FRA has opposed a switch for safety reasons, Marino said. PATH runs parallel to high-speed trains operated by NJ Transit, Amtrak and freight-line CSX Corp. (CSX)

Regulation alone doesn’t explain why PATH is less efficient than NJ Transit and Philadelphia’s Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority regional rail system, which are also regulated by the FRA.

One difference, said Marino, is that all three don’t have the same maintenance responsibilities.
so once again the high costs can be traced back to the FRA...maybe its time we scrap the FRA altogether and use the UIC Regulations..

Overnight PATH cut plan officially dead, Port Authority says

A PATH train arrives at Newark Penn Station. A proposal to end overnight PATH service has been taken off the table by the Port Authority's chairman. (Larry Higgs | NJ Advance Media)

Port Authority board chairman John Degnan said he will table a proposal to end overnight PATH train service.

In a Jan. 13 letter to State Senate President Steven Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto, Degnan said the proposal has been tabled after they met and the lawmakers requested the Port Authority end consideration of eliminating overnight PATH service.

"I have agreed to do so," Degnan wrote. "The panel's suggestion hasn't even been presented to the board of commissioners."

Resto credited the strong opposition by Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer and the the Hudson County congressional delegation to the proposal for changing the minds of Port Authority officials. Opponents also launched a petition drive to save overnight service.

Wow, that's very cool! I visited the 9/11 Memorial last spring and they only had a small fraction of the station built. It's amazing that they've been able to advance that quickly!

It's been very cold but not particularly snowy or icy compared to a normal winter (unlike in Boston).
