This will require installation of automatic fare collection gates in DTC buses in order to introduce common ticketing as you cannot use paper tickets in metro. It has been in air since many years. I don't know how they will be able to implement it.

Noida revels in low-floor bus comfort

Quote:

Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has extended the services of low-floor buses to Noida and it has received huge response. At present, these buses will ply on route 392, between Sector 62 in Noida and Dhaula Kuan in Delhi. Senior DTC officials said the routes would be diversified and more buses would be introduced in a phased manner.

"We have chosen this route as it will not be affected by the introduction of Metro services. We have received a positive response in the first couple of days. However, we are not taking the buses to the Noida depot as yet. As of now, the Mayapuri Depot in west Delhi will run the operations,'' added a senior DTC official.

The introduction of low-floor buses on the route has brought cheer to commuters who travel to south Delhi daily. "Metro has not connected south Delhi. Earlier, we used to depend on Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) and the rickety Bluelines. Though the UP yellowlines have become popular the recent fare hike saw the cost of tickets almost becoming double. The low floor buses are comfortable and our journey has become less expensive,'' said Kapil Sharma, who commutes from Noida to South Extension daily.

Meanwhile, UP Roadways officials said they would wait for a week to ascertain the losses on some popular routes due to the introduction of Metro service. "We have certainly lost some business in Noida, especially on those routes which start from Sector 34 and 62 to New Delhi. However, our passenger-base from Greater Noida and Ghaziabad remains intact. We still have 100% passenger load on these routes,'' said an official at the Morna bus terminal in Sector 34.

The official added that three other viable routes had already been chalked out in case there was a plan to replace the Noida-New Delhi route. "We have zeroed in on the Noida-Bhajanpura, Noida-Badarpur and Noida-Mehrauli routes all of which are serviced by Bluelines and DTC buses,'' added the officials.

Senior citizens to have reserved seats in low-floor DTC buses

Quote:
Senior citizens in the city will no longer have to jostle for a seat in the swanky low-floor DTC buses as government has decided to reserve some seats for them.

Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said the low-floor DTC buses will soon have seats reserved for the senior citizens.

At present, each low-floor bus has four reserved seats only for women. The general DTC buses have two reserved seats for the senior citizens.

The DTC, which runs the world's largest fleet of CNG buses, have been procuring low-floor buses as part of its efforts to modernise programme.

Officials said during next year's Commonwealth Games, the DTC will have a fleet of 5,000 low-floor buses.

CNG must in NCR towns: Min

Quote:
Anticipating the serious implications of hazardous smoke emanating from consistent increase in the number of motor vehicles, the Haryana government has decided to make the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) necessary in all towns of Haryana falling in the national capital region (NCR).

The order was passed in the meeting of officers from the environment department and Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) held on Monday. Haryana environment minister Ajay Singh also asked the officials to deposit the detailed action report on the disposal of bio-medical waste, stone crushers and sewage treatment plants.

Citing Delhi's example, he said, "So far as the NCR is concerned, we do not want to face the situation that Delhi saw at one time.. We already have CNG pumps in Faridabad and Gurgaon. Now, we would have pumps in all the towns across NCR. We have already informed the chief minister and departments have been told to come with a time-bound action programme so that this decision is implemented well in time.''

"At the same time, we have asked the town and country planning department and various city administrations to make arrangements,'' added Singh.

Informing about setting up of laboratories by the HSPCB, he said it was to keep a proper check on the pollution levels as well as pollutants across the state, specially the cities identified for the purpose of rehabilitation of NCR industries.

Notably, at present HSPCB has four laboratories set up in various divisions to cater to the needs of board for sampling and their tests. Expressing concern at the increasing environment pollution in the state, Yadav directed the department to keep a strict vigil and ensure those who violated the environment laws were taken to task. He also expressed concern over the increasing pollution level in the Yamuna river and said steps should be taken to contain it effectively.

Great development - like the Octopus card in HK. If they could extend the acceptance to convenience stores and supermarkets, more people would get it and use it.

40 low-floor buses for Noida depot

Quote:
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) finally got its own fleet of low-floor buses for the Noida Depot. "We have now got 40 low-floor buses for Sector 16 depot. We are now monitoring their movement fearing trouble from some Blueline operators. After the debut of low-floor buses on Thursday, we got a very positive response from people on Saturday,'' said a senior DTC depot official.

For now, the buses will ply on routes 33 and 34 to Mehrauli and Bhajanpura in south and northeast Delhi respectively. "These are extremely popular routes which, at present, have been monopolized by the Bluelines. We have also chosen these routes as they will not be affected by the Metro,'' added the official. According to sources, five low-floor buses will run on the Mehrauli and Bhajanpura routes each. Another 10 buses will ply on the highly popular route 347 connecting Sector 34 with Kashmere Gate via east Delhi. The rest of the buses will ply to Nehru Place and Dhaula Kuan.

"The new Metro line is witnessing long delays and coaches are crowded. My friend had to get off the train at Mayur Vihar as it became difficult to stand inside and opted for the low-floor 347 to north campus. It was a nice, comfortable ride,'' said Sidharth Mathur, a DU student.

Kapil Sharma, who travels from Noida to South Extension daily, was also happy with the new DTC fleet. He said, "Metro has not connected Noida with south Delhi. Previously we depended on UPSRTC (Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation) and the rickety Bluelines. Though the UP yellowline has been popular, it recently doubled its fares. These low-floor buses are comfortable and our journey has become less expensive.''

CM opens AC bus service with automated ticketing

Quote:
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday, inaugurated the 28-km long, air conditioned Dwarka bus service along with the Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS). A new bus terminal also became operational in the sub-city. The Dwarka Circular Sewa is the first AC circular bus service in the country.

Flagging off the services, Dikshit congratulated Dwarka residents on commissioning of a new bus depot, constructed on about five acres of land, and the bus service. Buses running on the Dwarka Circular Sewa will cover all the sectors in the subcity and each of the buses will be equipped with AFCS. ‘‘This is just a pilot of AFCS, which will be introduced in other buses and integrated with Delhi Metro, once people get used to it,’’ Dikshit said.

Area residents can buy smart cards for a security deposit of Rs 50. Commuters will get a discount of 10% on the fares when they use smart cards. Conductors will be present in the buses initially. The AFCS has been introduced on a pilot basis on six DTC buses which will run on the Dwarka Circular Sewa route.
There are plans to extend it to other routes like Mudrika, Outer Mudrika and BRT routes, and eventually to all the buses in the Capital.

The depot will cater to about 12,000 passengers per day, and the average daily earning is estimated at Rs 2,20,000 with an earning per kilometer of Rs 25. The routes to be operated from new Depot are RL-77, RL-75, Palam Coach, 724 Extn and Dwarka Circular.

‘‘The transport department will now commission one new depot every month. DTC has decided to install 20,000 Smart Card machines in 10,000 buses in the future,’’ said Arvinder Singh Lovely, transport minister.

I am not understanding one thing when they say GPS tracks the location of the bus when the card is swiped? What does the swiping of the card have to do with the location of the bus?
