Yeah. In case of metro, every station has its own AFC gates which are programmed so they can calculate how much distance you travelled between the two AFC gates (origin and destination). In buses, these gates are both the origin and destination for everybody. So in order to calculate fares, the machine has to register your origin and destination when you swipe the card and it is only possible when the moving machine is aware of its location all the time. That's why GPS for this awareness.

Do you think there will be accidents involving blueline buses if they too plied within dedicated corridors?
I would think fewer if at all since they won't be interfacing with the traffic. |
