This means that Tata will stop supplying buses until it finds the problem in the machine or the maintenance. That means further trouble ahead as the old DTC buses and bluelines are being phased out.
some days back a smart ass from bjp named VKM said the experience of metro is getting worse than the Bluelines..
now its time for him to make another such legendary comment..
the experience of low floor buses is getting worse than the delhi metro...
believe me..
its just a matter of few days..

And after some time he will oppose phasing out of bluelines saying that standards of metro and DTC low floor buses have fallen below bluelines

No manufacturing defects in Delhi low-floor buses: Tata Motors

Tata Motors on Tuesday said there is no inherent manufacturing defect in the low-floor buses supplied to DTC, a day after it was slapped Rs 4 crore fine by the Delhi government and withheld payment of Rs 150 crore following instances of fire in six such buses.

"Tata Motors has reassured itself and categorically states that there is no inherent manufacturing defects in the buses," the company said in a statement in the capital on Tuesday.

The company, which first supplied the buses in 2007, said the first lot of 650 buses have been driven on an average about 1,00,000 km each in a trouble-free manner under "fairly rigorous conditions."

"It is only in the recent past that a few buses had shown mechanical issues, which are getting corrected. As abundant caution, the company is examining other buses, and will take appropriate action," it added.

In the last three weeks, six low-floor buses of Tata's latest fleet have caught fire, raising concerns about passenger safety.

As part of the punitive measures, the Delhi government on Monday decided to withhold a payment of Rs 150 crore to the company for supplying 390 buses, besides a fine of Rs 4 crore for poor maintenance, and warned of legal action if corrective steps are not taken by the automobile giant.

The city government had given Tata Motors 45 days time to do a complete check-up of 950 buses it has supplied to the city transport corporation (DTC).

In the beginning of this year, the company had bagged a contract to supply 1,625 ultra-low-floor buses to DTC for Rs 2,200 crore under a 12-year contract.

Tata admits 'issues' with low-floor buses

Under pressure from the Delhi government after recurring incidents of fire on its low-floor buses, Tata Motors on Tuesday admitted to "mechanical issues" on some of its vehicles and said it would check its entire fleet as a cautionary measure.

"It is only in the recent past that few buses had shown mechanical issues, which are getting corrected. As an abundant caution, the company is examining other buses, and will take appropriate action," the company said.

The company, that has been slapped with a Rs 4-crore penalty by the Delhi government for poor maintenance of its low-floor fleet, however, claimed that there was no manufacturing defect. "Tata Motors categorically states that there is no inherent manufacturing defect in the buses," it said.

The company appeared to be blaming the roads of Delhi for the mishaps even as it engaged in self-praise on the performance of the first lot of buses that it delivered to DTC in 2007. "The first lot of 650 buses, on an average, has been driven for about 1 lakh km each — some of them have completed even 1,30,000km each — over 2 years, quite trouble-free under fairly rigorous conditions... Tata Motors seeks support from DTC that routes are monitored and so determined that the buses are plied on roads which are appropriate for such ultra low-floor vehicles."

The company, that is also responsible for the maintenance of the buses, said it carries periodic schedules to ensure that the vehicles are in proper shape. "The maintenance schedule includes both mandatory daily checks and also checks at different periods... Tata Motors system entails periodic review of the maintenance schedule, in the light of operating experience."

The company said it will review the processes, along with the DTC, to incorporate any changes required in the schedule. "Tata Motors reiterates its commitment to provide satisfactory operations of its fleet, as is expected by citizens, the Government of Delhi and the Delhi Transport Corporation."

New low: DTC bus catches fire again

It's more than enough now

Quote:
In yet another incident of a low-floor DTC bus catching fire in Delhi, a bus on the Outer Mudrika route caught fire near Pankha Road late on Saturday night. This is the seventh incident in less than a month.

According to police, the Uttam Nagar bound bus started emitting heavy smoke before the it could be brought to a halt. Fortunately no one was injured, fire officials said.

The driver suddenly stopped the bus after noticing smoke billowing out from the rear end of the vehicle and safely evacuated its passengers through the front exit. "There were around 25 passengers. I suddenly noticed smoke coming out of the engine from the left side mirror. I brought the bus to a halt and asked the passengers to get down from the front door,'' said Ram Prasad Meena, the bus driver.

Ajit, one of the passengers inside the bus, said they were shocked when they found the rear door shut. "Since there was smoke from the rear tyre portion, we rushed to the front gate which the driver managed to open. Fortunately, we were too few in numbers and escaped unhurt. The smoke subsided before the fire-brigade arrived at the spot,'' claimed Ajit.

The Delhi government has instituted an inquiry into the incidents.

The government has also imposed a hefty fine of Rs 4 crore on Tata Motors for "not properly'' maintaining the buses manufactured by it. The government has also decided to withhold a payment of Rs 150 crore to them and warned of legal action if corrective steps were not taken by the automobile giant.

As per the contract, Tata Motors has so far provided nearly 800 low-floor buses to the city government.

However, Tata Motors has cited bad road conditions as the reason for the mishaps after which DTC decided not to run low-floor buses on certain stretches in the city.

One more !!

Something is definitely wrong. The buses catching fire are from new lot which came just a few months ago (notice the yellow reflective stripe. Buses from previous lot don't have that). If more than an year old low floor buses are running properly, then definitely maintenance is not the culprit behind the fires. It is either sabotage or defect in the new lot.
