BRISTOL - New Stadium (30,000)

Bristol City

This is what the stadium would look like with an expanded capacity of 42,000 for the World Cup.

What do people think? I think it looks absolutely class it has a lot of character and is very unique. I really hope it gets built if it does then for me it will be the best new stadium in England.

Well I like it, but on the renderings it somehow looks like the stands won't be very steep. But I assume in reality they'll probably be quite a bit steeper than they seem here on those pictures.

I like it.
ITs different.
Would be great if one goal stand would stay in WC mode.
Than it would have 4 different stands

I'm really pleased for Bristol - I love the city and would definitly travel down to watch a game if England host 2018... but the stadium's nothing special, IMO it looks a lot like Anfield.

Is the lower tier below ground level? (like London's Olympic stadium)

The end stands are a bit too small in my opinion, but its still a great looking stadium. With all new stadiums in England looking identical at the moment its nice to see something different.

2 things i dislike on stadia. The steep roofs and the front seats which are very close to the pitch. Lets hope this very nice design don't have any of these 2.

Other than that, very nice stadion and a thanks to the thread-creator berkshire.

I think this stadium is great, it's very unique in every aspect of the design. I accept that this stadium won’t be to everyone’s preference but it is light years ahead of any drab bowl (Apart from Madejski that is ). And it lends itself to expansion easily which is an obvious plus.
It's good to see English clubs putting more effort in to their stadium’s design, this and the new stadiums at Brighton, Liverpool and Southend look great and the designs look well thought out. Hopefully Spurs can follow the trend and come out with something equally good.

You prefer the seats to be miles away like in the first photo?

I didn't said that, close to the pitch (see photo no. 2) is the ideal. Far from the pitch (see photo no 1) and very close to the pitch (see photos no. 3,4,5) just doesn't work for me.

I definetely prefer stands as close to the pitch as possible and I'm glad or new stadium has the stands as close aspossible, even though that is still 6m at the sides and 7.5m behind the goals.
In our old stadium the stands are much closer about 3 to 4 m. And it's really helps cerating great atmosphere, because you stand so close to the pitch, you feel so close you could almost touch the players. And when you shout or yell or applause it's more impressive for the players because the distance is so short. As a fan you really feel you can take your part in the match. And in the last matches when beat Bayern munich for example you could really notice their players were impressed by the atmosphere here, because the stands really are almost "claustrophobically" close to the pitch, and mostly terracing. It's really does improve the atmosphere when stands are close to the pitch, especially terracing. Which of course caused problems in the past and in several countries or clubs. In my opinion 6m from the sideline is allready kinda "far away", because I'm used to half of that distance, or maybe even just a little less, here in our 81 years old stadium. Sadly that's all not up to date. In modern stadia the minimum distance (UEFA requierements) is 6m and 7.5 and that's just the difference where the players on the pitch are impressed less easily if the fans shout at them. 6m is for the players on the pitch still a fairly comfortable distance, where you still feel pretty safe. 3m really isn't, that's a distance where you really start feeling insecure when you have a number of fans shouting and yelling at you. And the fans feel more part of the game. Even though as allways most people prefer to stand a little further upa dn not down in the first couple of rows. But when you stand right in the group somewhere in row 7 or 10 maybe, here in or stadium you're about as far away as somewhere in the first three rows in most modern stadia. And quite often you notice these moments, when especially guest players really do get impressed by the "claustrophobic" amtosphere here, with the homefans so close. It really does make them feel kind of uncomfortable at times. The homeadvantage here in our old stadium surely is a little bigger than in most other stadia here in germany in use today.

konstanz is at it again. Stands should be as close to the pitch as physically and legally possible, end of!

Fair enough. Well, for this to be included in the 2018 bid it can't have what you'd call "very close" stands. There are rules which FIFA has about minimum gaps for camera crews etc. But I would like that minimum to be as close to the edge as possible with all our stadiums for 2018

It's football and i like them all. But, if i had to chose i wouldn't prefer the no. 3,4,5 stands due aestheticians reasons.
The overall layout of those stadia versions (3,4,5) reminds those of indoor football/futsal.

I prefer, large pitches and wide stands. Something like this:
