Thanks Mr Housen!

Opening the new thread with some news about a "Manufacturing Technology Centre" that has been given the go-ahead for Ansty.

http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/new...2746-25048013/

Cov could really become the hi-tech centre for the Midlands what with this, the new building training centre in the city centre, and Ericsson... plus the technology business park at Whitley...

Coventry Manufacturing Technology Centre

Government is investing £40 million through Advantage West Midlands and East Midlands Development Agency to deliver this new facility in early 2011. Research work will focus on the development and application of near net shape manufacturing, high integrity joining and fabrication techniques, advanced tooling and fixturing systems, intelligent automation of fabrication, inspection and electronics manufacturing operations and operational performance and process integration. Companies such as Rolls-Royce and Airbus will be involved in the centre on a former airfield near the M6. Three universities, Birmingham, Nottingham and Loughborough will join with TWI Limited to support it. Over 10 years the centre is expected to see £130 million business-led applied research and its exploitation. It is envisaged that around 5000 jobs could be created in 3-5years
This could be a good one for the city - draw in a lot more high tech business.

Good one, waves...

I notice the Birmingham paper has a better article than the miserable excuse of newspaper they publish in Coventry these days.

Until next year, when both Birmingham and Coventry will have papers as miserable as each other (the Mail and the Telegraph.

The post has always been half decent, lets hope going weekly will improve it.

Anyway the MTC is good news not just for Coventry, but the midlands as a whole.

Might have to nip into the city centre tomorrow to have a look - take daughter for a cake while I'm at it!

so is the other store closing then?

I've also noticed the demolition of the low rise flats near the A46 flyover on London Road.

The other store closed down earlier this week.

The buildings near the flyover are actually offices - it used to be NTL's base.

The Hope and Anchor was well on its way to being an ex-pub this morning. Shame, really, but I guess it's an anachronism stuck there.

so what's going to be developed in the place of the former NTL base?

Social housing, I think.

The new HMV is weird, with some more stuff in, but still a poor selection of music overall.

I noticed a new Hawkin's Bazaar has opened up - looks permanent, as well - and a temporary gadget shop as well.

New cheap clothes shop as well.

Just been watching the repeat of the Blitz on BBC2. What an incredibly proud bunch Coventrians are and how they reinstated the services, worked in the munitions factories and generally stuck two fingers up at Fritz in total defiance!
