Sorry for using this thread but I didnīt find any other thatīs dedicated to aviation in Ukraine in general ...

I have a few questions:

During my first trip to Ukraine I have flown IEV-LWO on 7 oct 2005 with a LET-410 (UR-VTV / ex CCCP-67069) in a really beautiful blue livery.
The airline name was BALTIKA.
Until now I could not find out anything about this "airline".
The flight was operated under the ICAO code BTK but itīs impossible to find any information about this airline.
Was this airline somehow connected to the BALTIKA brewery ?
I am probably lucky taking that opportunity without thinking twice since apparently the airline didnīt last long ...

And now towards todays situation:
I am going to visit Ukraine for the second time in the first week of september.
Finally I am able to experience the AN-140 (and the YAK-40 before it becomes an "extinct species") ...
I will fly Motor Sich UDJ-IEV on sep 4 morning and IEV-KWG in the evening.
How likely is the risk of an aircraft change on one or even both routes ???

I am still thinking about going by train from Krivoy Rog to Zaporozhye and fly back to IEV the next morning (sep 5) on the scheduled AN-24 rather than staying on the train until Simferopol where Iīll catch my flight towards home on friday sep 6.
Heard that on this route Motor Sich occasionally operates an AN-74.
How are my Chances ???

And finally:
On the route KBP-SIP PS has only B737 scheduled. Any chance for an AN-148 ?
As far as I found out only KBP-HEL is scheduled regular with AN-148.

Will be flying SIP-IEV-BTS on Air Onix sep 6.
Couldnīt find any reports about this airline.
So, how are they (in terms of reliability/service/staff)

I had even considered flying Khors Air but their website is crap and their email response tells me to rather stay away from that operator ...

Iīd like to get as much input as possible.
Maybe I can even meet someone likeminded at IEV on sep 4 since I will have plenty of time between my morning arrival from UDJ and departure to KWG in the evening ?

hi,

Baltika is the same as Baltic in English. In Slavic world it always related to the countries near with Baltic sea: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania. Maybe it is now re-branded airBaltic?

You may try google.com.ua. In Cyrrilic, Baltika is Балтика and airlines is Авиалинии.

I have never used mentioned airlines, so I'm quite sure, you will fly very nice small-size airplane: Antonov or so (have never heard that someone use ATR or Bombardier in Ukraine, usually all airplanes are local made, so your chances are high).

Btw, Motor Sich Airlines owned by the larges engines producer Motor Sich for our aircrafts. So your chances are high... (they won't use foreign models)... not sure about aircraft model, but usually in Ukraine we don't have issues with professionally operated airplanes.

The name of this airline is Baltika-Universal Avia. In 2006 it changed name to Rivne Universal Avia. Well, it has nothing in common with BALTIKA brewery

Here is the "bird" that you a had a chance to ride on:

UDJ-IEV is operated with AN-140. Chances to be in a different metal are pretty low. Even in case of aircraft change, you'll get (most likely) AN-24. As I believe that you are really into aviation, I don't think that it will be a major disappointment.
With respect to IEV-KWG, it's YAK-40 all the time. The risk of aircraft change is low as well.

They do occasionally operate this route with AN-74, but I don't think that there is a big chance to catch it.

If you want to try AN-148, you can try KBP-LWO. In summer time KBP-SIP is very busy leg. Probally you will catch PS' B737-900ER on this route.

It's pretty normal company operating classic B737. Not that much to worry about. SIP-IEV is most cases will have 100% yield, while on IEV-BTS I believe will be enough of free space. Here is the trip report of IEV-BTS (in Russian though)

@Equario

Thanks for your explanations !

Well, Youīre right Iīm an airlne fan although not that much a spotter ...
(I donīt take that much photos - which may change eventually ...)

So, it seems everything is expected to go as planned ...
My hopes for an AN-74 are (realistically) low but the main target is definitely the YAK-40 and AN-140 ...

My first problem on this trip has already "arrived" ...
Had booked a flight on Danubewings BTS-KSC on sep 3 but last friday they informed me of the flight being cancelled
But I was aware that booking with them is gambling and I still can go to Kosice by train the same day.
Just need to be in Uzhgorod the next morning which still works that way.

My "schedule" is as follows:

03.09. FRA - VIE (HG) A320
03.09. BTS- KSC (V5) cancelled
04.09. UDJ - IEV (M9) AN-140
04.09. IEV - KWG (M9) YAK-40
06.09. SIP - IEV (OG) B 737-???
06.09. IEV - BTS (OG) B-737-??? - I guess most likely B 735 ?
06.09. VIE - FRA (HG) A320

I might squeeze in Zaporozhye - Kiev - Simferopol after arriving in Krivoy Rog but Iīm still undecided ...
Have already booked a train (sleeper) ticket Krivoy Rog - Simferopol.
So if I decide to do the extra flights Iīll just get off at Zaporozhye on the way.

Iīm just wondering what to do during my long layover in IEV on 04.09.(wednesday).
Maybe I`ll try to visit the aviation museum at IEV.
A friend of mine has been there and was very satisfied !
Otherwise maybe I could meet local spotters or even go downtown (havenīt seen much of Kiev so far)

I find this tiny airport terminal quite cute, simple yet elegant. Unlike the majestic terminals in other airports, it has its own beauty.

@MHG1023

You are welcome! What a nice itenary you have

It's a pity to hear that BTS- KSC is being canceled, but it just happens. Anyway, trip on a board of AN-140 and YAK-40 will compensate this problem.

By the way, you don't forget that you have to go to railway station's ticket table and exchange your e-ticket to a standard ticket.

What is you layover time at IEV? I advice you to see both the aviation museum and explore Kyiv. There are a lot of things to see.
Moreover, IEV is located pretty close to downtown.

Actually, XU-ZAB is wet leased (and operated) by Ukrainian airline Khors. Thus, it won't in be in Cambodia very soon.
