Good idea for a thread. Lots of imposing buildings in here. When I read the title, the MetLife building was the first one I thought of.

After looking at the pictures I think my vote goes to Ryugyong Hotel. The Romanian Parliament and John Hancock are also up there in my book. I usually don't find the castles and cathedrals quite as imposing b/c the various spires look delicate. The massive blocks are the ones that get me the most.

I don't think anyone mentioned Hoover Dam yet...not sure if it qualifies as a "building", but it is quite a sight.

the first post in this thread of the ryugyong hotel was my inspiration for starting this thread. after seeing all of the buildings that have been posted, it still is, in my mind, the most imposing building i've ever seen.

I couldn't really find any pics on the internet that do this one justice, but I've seen it with my own eyes and it's astounding.

Probably not the most imposing, but pretty impressive though: The Völkerschlachtdenkmal in Leipzig, Germany.

Cathedral of St. Paul in St. Paul, Minnesota

I always thought this one was really imposing. probably has something to do with it being taller than it is wide.

That's stunning. So very intricate, as many Indian temples tend to be.

Yes. Its a very famous Gopuram. Dates from 788 AD. It is featured on the seal of the govt. of Tamil Nadu state.

The Ministry of Finance Building, in Rio, is very imposing as well.

I elect windsor castle as it sits in the middle of the hustle and bustle of everyday life, on scale basis, it certainly imposes itself on the surrounded towners
