I've been very tempted to buy a m4/3 camera for when I don't want to lug my 5D around, though I'm more inclined toward the GF1 or the Olympus E-PL2.

The stripped down controls on the GF2 puts me off. In-body IS on the E-PL2 is attractive as I've got a bunch of old Canon FD lenses that I'd quite like to try using with one, and it's got a better quality add-on EVF available than for the Panasonics.

worth reading if you haven't seen it already: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicdmcgf2/

With G-1 body and new lens?

I am very impressed by 1 and 2 close-up shots which seriously look like original wallpapers in a computer.

I think you should post some of these pictures in Urban Photo Contest thread, very good quality

Taken with my Panasonic G2 body.

The lens is a manual focus Canon FD 35mm f/2.0 SSC (with concave front element) made about 1975.

IIRC the second shot was taken wide open at f/2.0.

I did used to enter the Photo Contest. I've won it at least twice and been a runner up or finalist a few times more than that.

It does tend to favour 'grand gesture' photos and HDR, though, which isn't really my scene (I tend to like taking photos of little snippets of life) and I find the voting process somewhat byzantine.

Maybe I'll think about having another pop at it some time...

CYBERTECT

You are posting some GREAT PHOTOS and i wonder what camera are you using.

2 years ago I made the biggest mistake of my my photographic life and bought a NIKON D500 as my first DSLR and added 55-200 lens and so far I have the worst pictures i've taken in my life...the photos aren't that sharp and i even have self doubt. Im currently thinking of migrating to CANON even though I'm not yet sure if that's the best move but all I want to a camera that will allow me to take sharp and amazing images such as yours

Please advise.

Um. Well, I have owned a Canon 5D for nearly five years, so it's been used for most of what you see on this thread. I do have some rather nice EF lenses that go on the front of it, like a 70-200 f/2.8L IS and 17-40 f/4L, which don't come cheap.

Having said, I was looking for something smaller and lighter to carry in my work bag and I've recently bought a Micro Four Thirds Panasonic G2 camera.

I've mostly been using it with 30-40 year old Canon FD and FL manual focus lenses that were bought for some of my film cameras but can be mounted on the G2 with an FD to m4/3 adapter. The body cost a bit over £300. I had the lenses already, but none of them were hugely expensive, usually less than £100 and often less than £60.

I've been having a lot of fun with it and everything you see on this page since the beginning of May was taken with that.

TBH, you should be able to get decent enough results with a D5000.

If you're having trouble, it might be the 55-200. It's certainly not been reviewed as an awful lens; it's possible that it's faulty in some way, but it's difficult to say much else without seeing some examples.

FWIW though, decent lenses are far more important than camera bodies IMO and they hold their value better. You might do well to get a decent-ish 35mm or 50mm prime (or perhaps the Sigma 30mm f/1.4) for your D5000 and see how you get on with that.

Switching to Canon isn't going to be a panacea and I'm certainly not going to tell you that the grass is any greener on the other side of the hill. While they do have some very nice mid-range telephoto zooms like the 70-200 f/4L, I doubt Canon's consumer zooms are that much better than Nikon's offerings and Nikon probably have a better selection of wide primes on the whole.
