Urbane thanks for the photos, I insert some image:
Building of the Norman ones or Royal building, with attached done Palatine Chapel to build from King Ruggiero II in 1132, the treasures and the mosaics that can be admired they have left dumbfounded all (for their great wealth) the visitors. Today it is center of the Sicilian regional parliament (ARS), over the astronomic observatory in Palermo "Joseph S. Vaiana."

New brings, attached to the building of the Norman ones, one of the ancient doors of entry in the city.

Back from taking a SSC posting break.

More photos of Palermo's streetscapes:

One of the many religious dedications from the faithful to be found in Palermo, this one from 1870 says " Stop here traveler, and praise Santa Rosalia"....of course it sounds better in Italian as it rhymes.

The neighborhood of Acquasanta in Palermo, which is where my ancestors came from: almost like a village inside the city, located in front of the shipyards.

Great pics! Reminds of Marseille and Napoli, also beautiful, but worn cities. I have heard Palermo is pretty dangerous.

Fantastic thread big thanks for putting it together. I loved Naples and I am planning a trip to Palermo, infact Palermo seems quite similar to Naples ; the architecture, the hanging laundry and those shrines to the saints (theres one to Maradona in Naples ). Great!

Is it difficult to get to Etna from Palermo?

Very interesting place, I liked, some areas in Palermo make me remember, some places in latin america, but with less historical zones, maybe for influence of italian colonies.

Wow, incredibly beautiful city. It doesn't matter if the streets are dirty or buildings not renovated, city has some true European style.

Great shots! thanks for sharing. It has somehow the charm of this cities that have so much patrimony that they don´t really take care of it. I would not say I prefer it like that, but it feels really natural

Nice city. It would improve with a little more care of the facades. Like someone said it reminds me to Naples and Marsaille. Very nice pictures.
