Maybe in the States but that wouldn't fly in Canada. Besides, the Riders are a community owned team.

Seat licenses are not uncommon in Canada. I know the Leafs do it. Not sure how successful it will be though for teams that do not have a decent sized waiting list for season tickets.

Are there any serious intentions of someday putting a retractable roof on this new stadium?

I personally think it would look better with an open-air design.

Yes, that is part of the RFP. It has to be able to get a roof in the future. I don't know of any stadiums that have been built with that requirement.

Are they gonna go with a retractable roof or a fixed roof?

What's strange is that Investors Group Field will be open-air, despite the fact that Winnipeg is snow hell.

There will be no roof on the stadium. When it is built the stands will be under cover and the stadium would be built to allow a roof at a later date. What type? Time will only tell, if ever....

They wouldn't have to do it for all of the seats, just the fancy ones.

I did some research on the city of Regina.

It turns out that this new stadium, as well as the existing Mosaic Stadium, is located in the North Central neighborhood of Regina. And that area is one of the roughest parts of Regina. In fact, the crime rates in Regina and Saskatoon are pretty high by Canadian standards.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neighbo...#North_Central

How do Roughriders fans feel about the new stadium being situated in one of the least appealing neighborhoods of Regina?

Do fans feel safe in that area when going to and coming from Roughriders games?

(Not trying to offend any Canadians here.)

It's a valid observation, but I'm generally in favour if the stadium will help the neighbourhood. Gated communities and ghettos are not the route Canada likes to take. Conventional wisdom north of the border is to spread things around and leave no one/no neighbourhood behind.

We could always do better, but these days there seems to be a concerted effort to pour money and resources into our poorer neighbourhoods. I support these initiatives 100%. The opposite strategy is too polarizing and ends up coming back to haunt you in the end.

If you new the province and the city, you would soon realize that it is not an issue mate.

Regina and Saskatoon for that matter are perfectly safe in the huge majority of each city. Yes the crime rate is high, I don't want to play a racial card but so is the aboriginal populations of these cities....

Where the stadium is now and where the new one is going is perfectly safe. Very rarely are there any problems when there are functions going on.

How do Roughriders fans get to and from Mosaic Stadium then?

That area isn't part of downtown. And I'd imagine that the city won't build a light rail network once the new stadium opens up.

Will people just drive to and from the new stadium? Or will people just walk from downtown to the new stadium?

The new stadium will be about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the current stadium, not to far for Canadians to walk. Currently folks walk up to 20 minutes to the stadium from their parking spots. As for downtown, very few do the downtown after the game......

For the current stadium, where do most people park?

Everywhere, streets, commercial parking, some onsite parking for season ticket holders, lots of backyard parking lots etc....

It is part of the game day experience

You mean part of earning a bit of cash on the side.

Nothing wrong with it, everyone in the area earns a bit of cash and people have a place to park although if you park too close you won't move anywhere after a Rider game.....

Fans take over the streets after games and walk where they want. Vehicles literally are forced to give way....

Will the current stadium ultimately be torn down to make way for additional parking spaces?

Are you saying that the streets in the North Central residential area north of the current stadium are filled with Rider fans and their cars?

Yes after a game when 25 to 30 thousand fans leave enmass, they literally walk where they want. Only complete idiots try to park close by, I myself would walk to East of Albert Street to my car. A good 10 to 15 minute walk....

I'm not too familiar with the history of the Riders.

But why aren't the Riders based in Saskatoon?

Sure Regina is Saskatchewan's provincial capital. But Saskatoon is Saskatchewan's most populous city.

Also strange is how Calgary is the most populous city in Alberta, yet Edmonton gets all the major events (i.e. concerts) at that outdated Rexall Place.
