business in the Philippines and China, a top official said Thursday.

Vice chairman Teresita Sy-Coson said the conglomerate would be “selective”

Pilipinas Agila tires
DREAMED TIRE FACTORY
TAKES SHAPE IN FINLAND

By Manny Piñol
Helsinki, Finland - The dream to manufacture the first ever Philippine utility and cargo truck tires has taken another step forward when one of Finland's leading tire manufacturing consultancy groups agreed to undertake a technical and feasibility study of the proposed project in partnership with a Filipino rubber farmers association.
Straight from a 17-hour flight from Manila via Istanbul, Turkey, the Philippine delegation which I headed immediately proceeded to the City of Pirkalla, some two hours away from Helsinki, to meet with executives of the Black Donuts Corporation.
Joining the Philippine delegation are Maguindanao Governor Esmael Toto Mangudadatu, whose province is now aggressively promoting rubber farming and Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) Director Angel Enriquez who will also visit the agro-forestry projects of Finland today and tomorrow.

Construction of 1st rubber plant on track
MANILA, Philippines - The construction of the first-ever rubber manufacturing plant in the country remains on track after a Finland-based tire company agreed to make a feasibility and technical study.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said Finnish tire manufacturer Black Donuts Engineering Inc. would soon undertake a technical and feasibility study for the proposed construction of the Pilipinas Agila Tyre Manufacturing in Davao.

“Black Donuts is ready to conduct a study which would determine the feasibility of a tire factory in the Philippines including financial and technical studies,” Piñol said.

“It was also agreed that the study would be conducted in coordination with the Philippine Rubber Farmers’ Association while the signing of a memorandum of agreement is expected to be done in Helsinki in November,” he added.

Black Donuts, which is involved in the establishment of several tire factories globally, also pledged to help explore sources of funding for the tire factory project which will approximately have an investment of $200 million.

The planned manufacturing plant would cater to domestic consumption for the production of tires for passenger vehicles, cargo, small pick-ups and agricultural machineries.

It was estimated to have the capacity to produce four million tires per year. One tire averages 10 kilograms and is composed of 40 percent natural rubber from the estimated 130,000 hectares of local rubber farms.

This would translate to about 16,000 metric tons (MT) more of rubber to be planted and produced annually.

A different line to manufacture motorcycle and bicycle tires would also be established and is expected to employ about 800 Filipinos.

Is this strategy working for Penshoppe? I mean they spend a lot if money for these international names but their reach/market is quite limited. Their strategy is totally different from that of fast fashion brands like H&M. Really hoping they'll make it well and open up in new markets.

Just asking , the Bunos of SM items are they outsource / or just rebrand or they come up with their own Manufacturing Plant? With the Massive Number of SM Malls, SaveMore, Hypermarket and it is growing in numbers for sure they can come up with their own brand and locally made not imported from China or other Company and just change label.

Josefa Slipways Inc., the Filipino shipbuilder that constructed the first two 50.5-meter Multi-mission Offshore Vessels (MMOV) of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has opened a new shipbuilding and ship repair facility on November 18.

The new facility of Josefa Slipways is located at the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) in Sual, Pangasinan. It is the first and currently the only one in the region, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.

The new shipbuilding facility is also expected to build 10 BFAR patrol boats, DOTr said.

BFAR’s two MMOV built by Josefa Slipways in its Navotas facility, Lapu-Lapu (MMOV 5001) and Francisco Dagohoy (MMOV 5002), were launched in August 2017.

RJ Guitar’s ‘Broadcaster’ out to rock the music world
With his tongue out and in an air guitar pose, Pinoy rock icon Pepe Smith described in one word (plus an expletive) what it felt playing the latest electric guitar recently launched by local manufacturer RJ Guitar Center: “Yeah!”
In the business of making these instruments since the late 1980s, RJ Guitar Center (Philippines) unveiled this month the Broadcaster, confidently branded the “Philippine standard,” said Ramon Jacinto II, the company’s president.
“This will be our top-of-the-line guitar,” Jacinto said. “[Smith] was actually one of the first people to try it out.”
“I’ve been playing with a lot of RJ [guitars] way, way back. They’re all fine. But when my hand touched that new guitar, p*tang ina,” Smith quipped.
Magical tour
Before the Broadcaster was officially launched at the RJ Bistro in Makati City, Smith, his band Drive Train, and other musicians such as Buwi Meneses of Parokya ni Edgar, Robin Nievera, Razorback’s Tirso Ripoll and Manuel Legarda, and Robby Mananquil and fiancee Maxene Magalona were first treated to a tour of where RJ guitars are born: the company’s 1,150-square-meter factory in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Made It In China: Liwayway's Group Is Now A Leading Brand

Shanghai in the early 1990s opened its doors to foreign investors, including those that would produce for the domestic market. The policy move was part of Deng Xiaoping's wave of market reforms to reinvigorate the economy, then reeling from international censure after the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989. Previously only foreign investors producing for the export market were encouraged. Liwayway was one of Shanghai's first foreign-owned companies to make goods for domestic consumers.
