China & Germany Cooperate for High Speed Rail Development

China, Germany to cooperate on designing high-speed rail technology

BEIJING, June 8 (AFP) - China's Ministry of Railways said Wednesday it had signed a cooperation agreement with Germany's transport ministry for joint development of high-speed rail technology.

In a statement, the ministry said the two countries will strengthen cooperation on "designing and constructing passenger railway lines with designed speeds of 200 kilometers (125 miles) per hour and higher."

Both sides will also improve cooperation on railway equipment design and manufacturing, railway lines and equipment maintenance, information technology and other technologies in the sector.

State media said the agreement signals that Germany's Maglev train builder has made a breakthrough in competition for high-speed rail orders from China against its French and Japanese rivals.

Maglev technology was developed by Transrapid International, a consortium comprising German industrial giants ThyssenKrupp AG and Siemens, and allows trains to barrel at speeds of up to 430 kilometers (270 miles) per hour.

China currently operates a short Maglev line linking Shanghai's new airport to the city.

China planned last year to invest some 130 billion yuan (16 billion dollars) to build a high speed link between Shanghai and Beijing -- a top priority project for the nation.

China has invited tenders from German, Japanese and French firms to build the 1,300-kilometer (810-mile) link.

Preliminary reports last year that Japan's technology was being strongly considered met with fierce criticism from anti-Japanese websites in China.

Japan's "Shinkansen" Bullet Train technology and France's TGV high-speed trains were once thought to be leading candidates for the bid as maglev technology was considered too expensive.

Vice-Premier Huang Ju Tuesday told visiting German Transport Minister Manfred Stolpe that China will strengthen international cooperation to improve construction, equipment and management of the railway sector.

Huang said that China needs to increase railway construction to meet the demands of a fast-growing national economy and will work with other countries to do so.

China has been conducting a massive railways construction program nationwide with the aim to extend its operational track from 75,000 kilometers (46,500 miles) to 100,000 kilometers (62,000 niles) by 2020.

Tthe new high-speed railway network linking Chongqing and Kunming in southwest China. The project is worth a total of 141.6 billion yuan ($19.9 billion).

This article (from 2017) claims its already nearing completion.! While recent news (from sept'2019) claim it has just passed approval from state planner.. ?!?
Although on further searching, you find a hsr line already exists covering the route in about 5 hours which will be cut down to 2 hours with the new line. So are they now doubling the lines on the same route?
Or does the the 5 hour train run on conventional tracks?

^^ Projected lines

China Eight-by-Eight PDL North:

China Eight-by-Eight PDL South:

Chongqing-Yibin-Kunming (24,64 M € x km) 350 km/h approved September 2019 681 km (+ 18 km shared with Zidong-Yibin PDL) PDL 06

This is the explanation of the present times:
Chongqing-Guiyang 200 km/h inaugurated on 25/01/2018 345 km PDL 07
Guiyang-Kunming 350 km/h inaugurated on 28/12/2016 461 km PDL 11

i know the thread probably contains a link, but could somebody repost a link to an accurate, high detail railway map? Thx
This official CR interactive map is probably updated but, as with the rest, there may be inconsistencies. In red HSR for 350 km/h and orange for 250 km/h:

And on this travel page there are maps of the various networks from January 2019.

NO. The blog is wrong. Chongqing-kunming is a new line. The one from 2017 is about the line from Changsha to Kunming and Chongqing to Guiyang line opened in Jan. 2018. Now there are some HSR trains from Kunming to Chongqing through Guiyang. But the new line just started is a direct one. It also provide a branch to Chengdu (chengdu-Yibin) from Yibin. The line is showing on the map as corridor 06 Beijing to Kunming corridor.

Actually both are correct.. Gusiluz posts cleared it out..
The older route is through Guiyang while newer one is through Yibin.
Infact, some of chengdu-kunming trains are routed through chongqing and guiyang which seems a bit counter intuitive.. But now its easy to understand where the travel time is cut from 5 hours to 2 hours..

Testing underway as China prepares to open 14 high-speed lines

Testing underway as China prepares to open 14 high-speed lines. IRJ today.
TEST running is underway on 14 new sections of high-speed railway in China as the country prepares to open the next batch of high-speed lines before the end of the year.

A 139km section of the Lunan high-speed line between Qufu East and Linyi North. The line has eight stations and a maximum speed of 350km/h and will cut the journey time from Linyi to Beijing from 10 hours to 3 hours. The Lunan line will eventually be 494km long comprising a 102km section from Linyi North to Rizhao Kuishan, a 163km extension from Qufu East to Hezedong, and a further 90km section from there to Lankao.

The Xuhuaiyan railway in Jiangsu Province which runs from Xuzhou to Wuzhou in the west, passes through Suqian and Huai’an, and runs east to Yancheng. It has 10 stations and a design speed of 250km/h.

The Dongzheng – Huai’an section of the Lianzhen railway has a maximum speed of 250km/h.

The Zhangchang – Changzhou railway will reduce the Changsha – Zhangjiajie journey time to around 3 hours. It links Chongqing Lijiang in the west with Changde in Hunan in the east and passes through Enshi, Xiangxi and Zhangjiajie. The line has 100 tunnels of which more than 90% are located in the Wuling mountains. There are 187 bridges and the line has a design speed of 200km/h due to the difficult terrain it passes through.

The Xingwen – Guiyang section of the Chengdu – Guizhou railway has a design speed of 250km/h.

The Zhanghu high-speed line is the first new high-speed railway in Inner Mongolia and runs from Hohhot East to Zhangjiakou South with a design speed of 250km/h. It will open at the same time as the 141km 250km/h Dazhang line from Datong to Zhangjiakou and the Beijing-Zhangjia high-speed line. The latter is described in China as the world’s first intelligent high-speed railway with a maximum speed of 350km/h, and will play a major role during the Beijing Olympics in 2022. The 174km line runs from Beijing North to Zhangjiakou in Hebei province with an end-to-end journey time of less than one hour. The journey time from Hohhot to Beijing will be shortened from 9 hours to less than 3 hours, while Datong will only be 1h 40min from Beijing compared with 6 hours.

The Changyi high-speed railway runs from Nanchang south to Zhangzhou. It has 13 stations and a design speed of 350km/h.

The Zhengwan high-speed railway from Zhengzhou East to Dengzhou East has a design speed of 350km/h and 10 stations.

The Zhengzhou high-speed railway runs from Zhengzhou South via Zhengzhou, Kaifeng and Xuchang in Henan, and connects with the Hangzhou high-speed line at Fuyang West. The design speed is 350km/h.

The Shanghe Hang high-speed line is expected to open before the end of November. The line runs south from Shangqiu via Fuyang, Hefei, Wuhu, and Zhejiang to Hangzhou. The 350km/h line has 29 stations and will provide an important link between Zhongyuan, Jianghuai and the Yangtze River Delta. Hefei will be within one hour of both Hangzhou and Shangqiu.

The Wuhan-Shiyan high-speed line will link Zaoyang with Shiyan.

The Hanshi high-speed railway has 13 stations and a design speed of 350km/h and is aimed tourists as it will serve well known scenic spots such as Wudang Mountain, Yandi Shennong’s Hometown and the Yellow Crane Tower.

The first map on post 12916 has many new lines I didn't knew before. Too bad it doesn't extend to the Northeast nor Xinjiang. However I see there is no HSL planned between Suide and Yinchuan, which is nominally part of the Qingdao-Yinchuan passageway (number 9 on Gusiluz's map).

The same map on post 12916 solves most of what is missing:
- Only the northernmost section of the Lianyungang-Zhenjiang line (Lianyungang to Huai'an) is opening
- It's Changde-Zhangjiajie-Qianjiang (the latter already in Chongqing). It also goes through the southernmost tip of Enshi Tujia Miao in Hubei, hence the confusion.
- Zhangzhou? It's Ganzhou, which makes more sense, as Nanchang-Ganzhou is part of Nanchang-Shenzhen (and in turn part of the second Beijing-Kowloon line).
- "Hanshi" is Hankou (i.e. Wuhan)-Shiyan.

China’s Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail operator is more profitable than Apple, plans stock market listing

https://amp.scmp.com/economy/china-...i-high-speed-rail-operator-plans-stock-market

The company that operates the Beijing-Shanghai section of China’s high-speed railway network has submitted a formal application to float on the stock market, and in doing so revealed details of its lucrative operation.

According to the filing, published by the China Securities Regulatory Commission on Friday, Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway, which operates the 1,300km (807 mile) line, booked a net profit of 9.5 billion yuan (US$1.3 billion) in the first nine months of the year.

That represents a margin of about 38 per cent on its revenue for the period and makes it more profitable than both Apple which makes the iPhone, and Kweichow Moutai, which makes China’s most famous brand of baijiu, the world’s most popular spirit.

Well transrepid doesn't want to transfer the technology. China doesn't want to build a system controlled by a foreign company. It will be too expensive to run. Now they are making by their own. If it is successful they will build it in some corridors.
Is the new system based on transrapid's electromagnetic system or scmaglev's electrodynamic system? Have any routes been proposed yet?
