Oh I see, that's a small but rather significant difference, the detached end stand at Copenhagen Arena looks a little bit out of the way.

But I think that the rest of the stands has a very nice flow (if you can say that) and the outside sets this arena apart from many arenas here in Europe.

All in all its a joy to be able to follow this construction first hands as I live only 40 kilometres away from Copenhagen.

I know handball is popular in Denmark, but will its main use be as a concert venue?

I think so, Copenhagen is a regular stop on most tours. Copenhagen could be the biggest city in the western europe or the only capital without decent size arena. I thought it would be slightly bigger though maybe around 15 000.

Handball is more of a provincial thing in Denmark.

The best team from Copenhagen is Ajax and and they play in the second best league.
They have tried before to establish big teams in Copenhagen with FCK Håndbold and AG København and both have failed big time.

But the Arena will be used in bids for various sports and tournaments like world cups (in smaller sports) and european championships.

The first plan was for 15.000 seats in total but now 15.000 is only the concert capacity and the danish Icehockey federation is angry about this because they wanted to bid for a world cup (in 2017 i think) and the requirements for this would be a 15.000 seat arena.

But Live Nation does probably not care about that at all

Of the 12.500 seats in total there will be 1.000 premium seats and 16 suites with a capacity of 12-15 persons each.

I suspect that they will try to get it ready in order to host the womens world championship in handball in december 2015.

The last tenders, electrical installations and wire´s has a final date of 3th of September, only two months before the championship.

If Denmark is choosen to host the Ice Hockey World Championships 2018 then this Arena will be co hosting together with Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning

Here is the press release translated by google so if it isn´t making any sense thats why.

Denmark has made official World Cup bid.

DIU has now submitted a formal bid for Ice Hockey World Championships 2018. As host will be awarded in May 2014 IIHF World Congress in Minsk.

If the World Cup comes to Denmark , the total of 64 World Cup matches played respectively in the new Copenhagen Arena in Copenhagen and at Jyske Bank BOXEN in Herning. Copenhagen will also host the World Congress , which takes place in the final days in May 2018.

- I 'm proud to be able to deliver a very strong bid for Ice Hockey World Championships 2018. A hockey World Cup is one of the world 's greatest sporting events and thus a great and exciting challenge for any organizer. We have with Sport Event Denmark , Wonderful Copenhagen and Herning Municipality developed a strong concept for the world championships in Denmark in 2018 , which includes fantastic facilities, a strong overall organization, a level of activation of the Danish population and - not least - the development of the Danish ice hockey environment , says DIU President , Henrik Bach Nielsen.

- The Ice Hockey World Championships is one of the largest , Denmark can be hosting , and with this World Cup , Denmark could predict its impressive sports events calendar , which record includes has featured UCI Road World Championships and has recently offered include European swimming championships and European championships in volleyball. This year added as including European Championship in handball , badminton World Cup , World Half Marathon and Golf European Tour, said the staging director , Sport Event Denmark .

- The great world events helps to emphasize Copenhagen's position as an international metropolis. With the new arena gets Copenhagen completely new possibilities to facilitate the biggest sporting events and thus extend the string of international events that Copenhagen has on his resume , says Lars Bernhard Jørgensen , CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen.

- In Herning , we have shown that nothing is too big for us to put house . Our sports events in BOXEN has so far been carried out with good marks , and we know how to create festive and enthusiasm. Hockey The sport already has a strong profile in Herning, and we will be happy to show the best of the sport during a World Cup , says Herning Mayor Lars Krarup .

An ice hockey World Championships with the participation of 16 countries and lasts for 17 days. It is among the world's biggest sporting events and would then be the biggest event that has ever been held in Denmark .

Participant field for World Cup vote has been continuously reduced , so when in May will vote to host the Ice Hockey World Championships in 2018, only Denmark and Latvia in the pool .

The number of regular seats will be aproximately 8000 fixed seats and aproximately 2830 Retractable seats.

As posted before there will be 1000 premium seats and 18 lounges with between 13 and 15 seats bringing the capacity to between 12.046 and 12.100.

But where has the last 400-454 seats gone.

The current design isn´t bad either

I think that this design was from the first bidding round when the capacity was 15.000, it also says 15.000 on the website.

But they found out that it was to expensive so a new bidding round with a new capacity of 12.500 (and only 15.000 in concert capacity) was started.

But why didn´t Hopkins bid for the 12.500 arena?
