Jaya Shopping Centre, a PJ landmark and favourite neighborhood shopping place will re-open its doors in March 2014 following a major re-development. The new Jaya Shopping Centre will feature a mix of 150 retail outlets spread out over seven floors. This will include dining options, supermarket and conveniences, cinema and entertainment outlets as well as sportswear, fashion, children’s toys and gift shops. It will also offer beauty and wellness spas, electronics and gadgets shops and a banking hall. Jaya Section Fourteen Sdn Bhd director Ismail Ani Arope said the Shopping Centre has to date achieved a 80% take up rate and is currently awaiting completion.
Ironically, the new and old Jaya are almost the same in design and overall height... From the glassy facade facing Semangat Road to the side covering the entire city block of Section 14... The only things missing in the new version are the multi-level car park, office space, glass elevators, and lower shopping podium!

Although the floors of the new Jaya SC are very high (at least 12", from the picture above and below - seven floors yet has the same height as the 10 levels of the old version) and will surely give a much better shopping experience than the low ceilings of the old building!

TGV at Section 14, Petaling Jaya
http://www.cinema.com.my/news/news.a...ection14_15306

An 8-screen TGV Cinema is set to open in Section 14, Petaling Jaya.

With the closing of TGV CapSquare on 1 July 2013, comes news of a new TGV cinema location for the popular commercial hub of Section 14, Petaling Jaya for which an 8-screen cinema will be housed at the former Jaya Shopping Centre grounds.

The once well-known landmark distinguished by its blue exterior was one of the first few malls in the Petaling Jaya area and served as a popular hangout spot for students from the secondary and primary schools nearby, as well as families residing in the area.

In May 2009, the building made national headlines when seven construction workers were killed after the building suddenly collapsed while it was being gradually torn down for redevelopment.

Since 2010, the mall has been undergoing construction to be rebuilt from scratch and completion is expected by the end of this year.

A representative from TGV Cinemas confirmed that once the new mall premises are ready, the new 8-screen TGV cinema will commence its operations approximately in the first quarter of 2014.

The cinema is currently planned to house standard screening halls for 2D and 3D movies, and will not encompass TGV specialty halls like Luxe, Beanieplex and the IMAX theatre.

TGV also plans to open several other locations in 2014, they are; Cheras Sentral Shopping Mall in KL, Gurney Paragon in Penang and another in Miri, Sarawak.

Wow, the requirements set by the authorities are very stringent... That's a good move, to ensure that Jaya SC is equipped with all safety features in the event of a disaster!

Btw, the new Jaya reminds me of the second Bangsar Village, I dunno why... Maybe its because both buildings are vertical-type malls sitting on a small strip of land, with a thin atrium inside? Although Jaya SC's additional feature is that 8-screen TGV Cinema on the 7th floor, something that BV does not have!

Work opportunities expected when refurbished Jaya Shopping Centre opens
The Star Online | Friday January 10, 2014
http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Commu...ed-mall-opens/

The developer of Jaya Shopping Centre says the project continues to attract new tenants, demonstrating the confidence of business owners and entrepreneurs alike in the shopping centre that is expected to open in March.

“As a neighborhood shopping centre that has a strong nostalgic flavour, we are hoping to create more than just memories. The community has been supportive and excited with the opening of the new Jaya Shopping Centre. We want to continue to serve and instil a sense of belonging and at the same time play a positive part in the local economy,” said Ismail Ani Arope, director of Jaya Section Fourteen Sdn Bhd, the developer for Jaya Shopping Centre.

He added, “Jaya Shopping Centre exists among 23 established universities and private colleges in the vicinity. With more than 80% of the retail stores in Jaya Shopping Centre taken up, we are confident of creating full time, part time and seasonal employment opportunities. Some of our tenants include Cold Storage, TGV, Best Denki, Brewball Pool & Karaoke, CIMB Bank, Chilli’s Bar & Grill, Cobay, Original Classics and Toys ‘R Us. We expect to create many jobs to meet the human capital requirements of some of our tenants when Jaya Shopping Centre opens.”

“Section 14 Petaling Jaya has always been a hub of activities. Jaya Shopping Centre then was already the centrepoint for the community, and will once again become the favourite neighborhood shopping place, a home outside from home, a quality lifestyle hub, a natural rendezvous point and a place for conducting business and work,” Ismail added.

“Currently I am a part-timer, working in Kuala Lumpur. I commute after classes and during holidays between my home and college in Petaling Jaya. My friends and I are looking forward to Jaya opening as it is convenient for us and we hope that the part-time jobs at Jaya will be listed in our college online portal,“ said Amanda Seow, 22, a final-year student at UTAR, Petaling Jaya.

Ooi Chee Kek, CEO of Saito College, a design college in Petaling Jaya, said, “We believe in creating safe environments for our students. Through our work + study programme, we endeavour to place our students in organisations and commercial entities where they can get valuable work and industry experience. We also support our students with shuttle service to ease their transportation needs.

“We look forward to working with Jaya Shopping Centre management,” said Ooi
Jaya Shopping Centre is expected to receive its certificate of completion and compliance in the next few weeks.“We have embarked on the countdown to the opening by planning numerous exciting activities. We are excited to bring Jaya Shopping Centre, the shopping centre with a soul, back to Petaling Jaya,” Ismail added.

Jaya reaches out to retailers via portal

Convenient: Jaya’s B2B website aims to reduce barriers between the soon-to-open shopping centre and retailers.

THE iconic neighbourhood shopping centre, Jaya Shopping Centre has launched a business-to-business (B2B) website, targetting the business community and retailers.

The website provides key information on the shopping centre, combining illustrative approach and images, showcasing the building design and interior, as well as its floor-by-floor retail concepts.

“This is yet another milestone for Jaya in the countdown to its opening. The website is intended to reach a wider audience who are keen to know more about the shopping centre,” said Section Fourteen Sdn Bhd director Ismail Ani Arope.

“Our aim is to make it convenient and reduce the barriers between us and the retailers,” he said.

“Interested retailers can download key information on Jaya and register their interest via the online leasing enquiry form, or by calling the listed number on the website.”

The shopping centre is expected to open in the first quarter of this year.

Located in Jalan Semangat, Jaya Shopping Centre is next to Digital Mall.

The new mall will house more than 150 retail outlets, including a cinema and supermarket.

The portal can be viewed at http://jayashoppingcentre.my/
