Surge in hotel bookings in Mysuru

Quote:

The fortunes of the hospitality sector is beginning to look up with rise in occupancy rates in most hotels. With Christmas vacations and year-end holidays round the corner, bookings have gained momentum in the last two weeks. The occupancy rates hovered around 50 per cent till December 10 after which there was a surge in bookings and a good inflow of tourists, both domestic and international, said R. Rajendran of the Hotel Owners’ Association. Bulk of the bookings is being done online, he said.

Another hotelier confirmed that the occupancy rates have increased to 75 per cent and is expected to rise. “We expect accommodation to be sold-out in the run-up to Christmas and New Year,” he said. There are about 120 to 150 hotels catering to different segments — budget to luxury category.

The Forest Department indicated that accommodation in Nagarahole was sold out beyond the New Year. The situation is similar in Bandipur where accommodation has been sold out till the first week of January. The district administration’s attempts to shore up tourism by organising cultural programmes for tourists have been welcomed by stakeholders. “The district authorities will launch a ‘December to Remember’ programme from December 25,” Mr. Rajendran said.

Kerala tourism dept to set up 'Film City' in Mysuru

Quote:
Mysuru city known for its palaces and favourite destination for not only tourist but also for film shooting as a single plot of land measuring about 100 acres has been identified near Kodakola, about 15 km from Mysuru off the National Highway 212, for establishing the much-delayed 'Film City' project.

The Department of Tourism sources told uni that they had requested the district administration to find an stretch of land for setting up the Film City, which would become a one-stop destination for film making, in and around Mysuru. In the absence of government land that measured not less than 100 acres within 10-km radius of Mysuru, the administration scouted for land outside the city limits and chose this area under the control of the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).

Incidentally, the land identified for the Film City is close to Mysore airport.

"The land we have identified is in a good location - close to Mysuru and well connected with the NH 212 nearby. This has communicated to the director of the Tourism Department. The authorities have to check the viability of having the facility at the location," said Deputy Commissioner C Shikha.

He discussed the proposals at a meeting of the District Tourism Development Committee here recently.

Minister in-charge of Mysuru district V Srinivas Prasad had recently said here that he was working on a larger scheme for the Film City and people who had visited Hollywood had submitted their views on what could be done in Mysuru.

Also, land for the proposed Tourist Facilitation Centre, a one-stop destination for tourists where facilities such as tickets for tourist spots, taxi hiring and so on were available under one roof, has been identified in Mysuru.

"The tourism department wanted about two acres of the facility, but we don't have two acres readily available. Since we had half an acre of land available in the city, this was conveyed to the department," she said.

The Centre is aimed at assisting tourists enjoy hassle-free sightseeing and for dealing with parking and traffic congestion.

The idea of developing such a centre came up during discussions here recently with stakeholders of the tourism industry. UNI BSP DS VN1405 NNNN
