According to UP urban planner experts, we need a massive railway network just like in Seoul, Beijing and Tokyo to remove traffic congestion in Mega Manila.

Special thanks to prof. Primi Cal of UP SURP for your time.

I am dreaming for this to happen in my lifetime. Sana maabutan ko pa ito. But considering that for the past 5 years of the Aquino administration, no rail line was built. If only they did not contradict or scrap the common station, by this time it should be operational already. And who knows? Maybe the MRT line 7 was nearing completion if it was implemented.

Read from news na a 1.5 mile subway extension and a station (hudson yards) in new york cost 2.4 billion dollars to build, started to be built 2007, was delayed completion for two years, and was recently opened.

MAy pag asa pa tayo! Hahaha

dapat talaga matuloy yan kasi yan na ang long term solution para sa traffic sa metro manila unless ayaw ng susunod na pangulo ng pilipinas na magkaroon ng mga tren

This will also generate numerous job opportunity for our countrymen. From maintenance personnel, janitorial and security services, and hopefully shops inside the station just like in other countries. It's a win-win solution to traffic and employment. I hope the government should look beyond the cost and consider the long term benefits and real property developments if this would take place.

Keep reminding people about the "old" plan. What is old is still new. They keep redoing plans, making more masterplans and feasibility studies, they think they're making leche plans not infrastructure.

Would it be effective if a bill is made prioritizing the construction and completion of an agreed railway system (just like the one from UP SURP) not just here in Manila but also in key cities? The law could state how many kilometers of railway should be built per year, and if it the premises aren't met, the Transportation chief would be held liable. Also, the law could keep the administrations from changing the masterplan.

LRT1 Updates
Most of the station crew wears reflective vest including train drivers.
No more excess bond paper postings on ticket booths. The glasses are clean!
Proper and well designed information cards were placed.
Fire extinguishers are mostly complete in most stations.
Temporary tickets have new design.

In other words: Same old, same old.

Has LRMC taken over operations of LRT-1? And also will LRMC take over LRT-2 as well?

L1 only. L2 O&M up for bidding

Anyway, DOTC's sneaky moves re: 7.5B "payments" is simply disgusting. Grabe.

Apparently LRMC has NOT demanded anything from the national government.

And another thing: MVP says it does not have any sovereign guarantees from the government. Well and good (SANA TALAGA)

====

Will Mar Roxas reappoint DOTC’s Abaya?
DEMAND AND SUPPLY By Boo Chanco (The Philippine Star) |
Updated September 14, 2015 - 12:00am

Quote:
P-Noy later said the Light Rail Manila Consortium (LRMC) has demanded P7.5 billion as compensation for the government’s supposed failure to comply with contractual obligations regarding the LRT-1 Cavite Extension. There had been no such demand, according to the LRMC officials. That means Abaya made a grave misrepresentation to his President. He lied or was he misinformed himself?

xxx

Indeed, LRMC itself pointed out it is absurd for a private partner to make “claims” on the government even before the turnover. InterAksyon, the news website of ABC Channel 5, reported Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), the lead company in LRMC, told them he had no idea where the alleged claims came from, especially since the LRMC was being pointed to as the claimant.

xxx

Pangilinan also stressed there was no sovereign guarantee made by the government to the LRMC. “There’s no fixed guarantee, for example, 12 percent. No, this is not a guaranteed return. The government is not saying ‘I will guarantee you every year 12 percent no matter what, even if you don’t perform, even if your ridership is low.’ There’s nothing like that. The Republic did not say, ‘Come hell or high water, I will give you 12 percent.’ There’s no such thing,” he said.

Knowledgeable sources told me that unfortunately, MVP was kept in the dark. Sources point to a certain Kintanar from one of the consortium members who supposedly worked with Usec Timmy Limcaoco to convince Abaya to make the funds request from the Budget department.

xxx

That request for funds to cover penalties even before they got started was sneaky, so typical of DOTC. It is along the lines of the secret negotiations they are conducting for the maintenance contract for MRT3 exposed by my colleague Jarius Bondoc in this paper.
Regarding actual construction if L1 extension:

Quote:
There are two phases: takeover of old system and the construction of the extension to Cavite. There is no date yet for the start of the construction, as this depends on the government’s delivery of right-of-way.

Here is a sample of the new paper ticket design:

Maganda yung information banners nila pati fare matrix complete. Hawig sa graphics ng beep card (essentially same consortium).
