Two totally newly designed towers. Square, not rectangular.

Height increase to the taller tower.

Public stairway gone, though towers linked at the base via promenade.

Much larger distance between towers.
That plus retain the pub and I'd likely be pretty happy.

Salford and Shudehill?

This is the new Axis/River Street saga. It's brilliant that we have other towers going up as this has it all, if we could get a Kardashian at the reveal, then we have gone global with it.

Same. Of all the issues with this proposal height was not one of them.

My obvious guess.

Towers totally changed. Everything. Boxed shaped. Mirroring the surrounding buildings in appearance and cladding. Terracotta. Stone. Ideally. New York or Chicago style. Wait a minute, Circle Square-esc in appearance. Perfect!

Maybe 1 of the towers has become a large office block instead like the original designs for St Michaels were. Can't be arsed looking for it. Office block closest to the town hall. Tower closer to Deansgate. The horrible blank lift wall has gone. The Street level interaction is a million times better. The dreadful steps and even worse podium have gone, replaced by a wonderful central Square, accessible from all directions.(St Peter's Square-esc in appearance, bar Metrolink) The Police Station has been saved. Sorry, not that fussed about the pub. However, I do appreciate those of you that are. If that has been saved, then happy days.

Just hoping for a really attractive, but safe, and to be honest, because of the buildings and area that surrounds the site, a conservative proposal, that is interesting and fitting for that part of the city centre and Manchester.

Something like this using glass would be absolutely perfect.

Zaha Hadid Architects, SOM, Ian Simpson Architects, Manuelle Gautrand Architects, and Wingårdhs Arkitektkontor are all competing to design what will be the tallest tower in Scandinavia. Submitted anonymously, the five shortlisted proposals have just been unveiled by Serneke, who has envisioned the skyscraper as an integral piece to a larger 32,000 square meter mixed-use masterplan in Gothenburg that has been in the making for more than ten years.

Slightly off topic.

Nice video of Simpson's Beetham tower Penthouse. And his views on Architecture.

That's certainly a transformation and a half.

Wow those architects must have been pulling a few all nighters. This is completely different, and much better by the looks of things.

Edit. Due for a second consultation in august and planning in November which makes sense as there is no way they could have started from scratch a month ago and have the entire thing ready by now.

Clearly this also means that meaningful changes can still be made if need be.

Pub kept, Police station facade kept, glass cladding to reflect the areas surrounds - which is exactly what I wanted. Height retained. All excellent.

I would have liked something a bit sleeker, but I'm delighted with this overall.

I hope we get more detailed renders of the tower at some point.

Now THAT is more like it!

- Classy tower
- The retention of some of the old buildings
- Active street frontage on the new builds
- Complimentary roof extensions to the existing blocks
- An open thoroughfare through the centre to break the block up with no dead end

Winner!

I actually think the tower looks a little bland from the renders. Although the image JRB has posted seems totally different again. So hopefully the tower element can be improved.

Maybe the towers final design is yet to be decided?

They're are 3 towers above, one with a curved side, one with balconies and a vertical emphasis and one as just a solid glass block

Yep, they're obviously still developing the proposal. Please let there be curves though.
