Foundation stone laid for IT tower at Kesarapalli SEZ

http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper...le20745754.ece

Lokesh asks project owners to build it in six months

IT Minister Nara Lokesh on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a new IT tower on the premises of the IT SEZ at Kesarapalli, Gannavaram.

This marks the beginning of the second phase of the L&T Hitech City Limited project, a joint venture floated by APIIC and L&T Infotech in 2007.

Huge office space

The new tower, which will come up adjacent to the existing tower Medha, will create an office space of four lakh square feet and can accommodate about 4,000 people, said Mr. Lokesh speaking at the ceremony.

Mr. Lokesh asked the project owners to ensure that the tower is completed in next six months so that more companies can come in.

“The government has set a target to provide one lakh job opportunities in the information technology sector and two lakh jobs in the manufacturing sector. More such facilities are going to come up in the State to accommodate more companies,” he said.

Mr. Lokesh said that about one crore square feet of area is required to house companies that provide the one lakh jobs in the State.

“The Medha IT tower which was vacant for many years has been filled with companies in the past eight months. Once the new tower is completed in six months, more companies will start functioning,” Mr. Lokesh said.

Lokesh lays stone for two IT companies in Mangalagiri

http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper...le20832723.ece

Ecosystem for small and medium firms too will be created, he says

IT Minister N. Lokesh laid the foundation stone for two companies — Akshara Enterprises Limited and KG Systems IT Centre — coming up in the private sector at Autonagar in Mangalagiri near here on Friday, a press release said.

Objective

On the occasion, Mr. Lokesh said the government was developing three clusters, one each at Mangalagiri, Gannavaram, and Amaravati. The objective was to create one lakh jobs in the IT sector an two lakh jobs in the electronics sector across the State in the next two years, he added.

Stating that the students should aim at securing a job immediately after passing out from college, the Minister said the students should work in the company for at least five years. It would help them grow in their career, apart from helping the company consolidate itself.

The entire IT sector, to the exception of a few companies, was concentrated in Hyderabad at the time of bifurcation. Due to the sustained efforts of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, many companies had come forward to set up their offices here in the last three years, he said, and added that the focus would not be just on big IT companies.

“The government wants to provide the ecosystem for small and medium IT companies too. The Mangalagiri IT Park will be a hub for the small and medium companies,” he said, adding that about 10,000 jobs would be created at the Mangalagiri facility.

Subsidy

The Chief Minister allocated 200 acres for the IT sector in Amaravati. The government was giving concessions and subsidies to the IT companies like never before, he said.

“Extending 50% rental subsidy is one such initiative. My target is to generate one lakh jobs before 2019,” he added.

TiE Amaravati to accelerate startup ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com...w/62427858.cms

The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) will formally launch its Amaravati chapter and Angels Network on January 17 to help accelerate the growth of the start-up ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh.

The launch will take place in the presence of entrepreneurs, mentors, advisors and others. Information Technology Minister Nara Lokesh will preside over the formal launch, said a TiE statement.

The inaugural event will be attended by JA Chowdary, Special Chief Secretary and IT Advisor to Chief Minister and charter members of TiE Amaravati.
All educational institutions and start-ups in Andhra Pradesh have been invited to participate.

"To enable the state of Andhra Pradesh to lead collective dream of a new India and for the development of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Startup culture, we strongly felt the need for a TiE Chapter as well as an Angel Network," said Sateesh Andra, President TiE Amaravati.

He cited the 2017 edition of the NASSCOM-Zinnov report which says India ranks third among global startup ecosystems with more than 5000 startups with over 1000 new additions in 2017.

One of the key developments in India's startup market over the past decade has been the development of large, robust angel investor ecosystems.

"We sincerely believe that entrepreneurship and innovation are keys to achieving industrial development, job creation and GDP growth. With banks reining in all but the safest loans since the recession and venture capital firms now targeting less risky late-stage business startups, angel investors play a crucial role in backing young, fast-growth companies," said Suresh Chitturi, Board Member TiE Amaravati.

The Board of TiE Amaravati comprises of Sridhar Krishnamoorthy, Purnima Kamble, Suresh Chitturi and Sateesh Andra. Alongside the Board, the founding members of TiE Amaravati include Srini Raju, Ramesh Byrapaneni, and JA Chowdary.

TiE Amaravati also has their founding patrons in Srinivasa Farms, Gerdau Steel, and Pi Datacenters. A non-profit organisation founded in 1992 in the Silicon Valley, TiE currently has 61 chapters across 18 countries.

The organisation's mission is to foster entrepreneurship globally through mentoring, networking, education, incubating, and funding. Since its birth, TiE's economic wealth creation is estimated at $200 billion.

Mangalagiri is new destination for youth

http://www.deccanchronicle.com/natio...for-youth.html

It is turning out an IT training hub like Ameerpet

Guntur: Mangalagiri is fast turning into the new destination for youngsters of the digital generation with the starting of IT, software, research, development and training centres. IT companies namely Make My Clinic India Pvt Ltd, Excellar Info services, Phycare IT park, Picxy.com, DFI India Pvt Ltd, Script Bees IT Pvt Ltd, Adwait Algoritm, Charvikent, Sttwica, Sunset LLC, BVG, Suvi, Digital Lynch, Crazytoonz, Bluebyte IT solutions, Skonda IT Services, Tech Seven, Waivewave and others have been started in the Mangalagiri, the ancient jaggery town that is famous for the Panakala Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple on the hilltop.

The AP government has decided to develop Andhra Valley at Mangalagiri along the lines of the USA’s Silicon Valley. The digital generation of AP state is used to Ameerpet of Hyderabad for software and IT training and skill development but now with Mangalagiri turning into the new destination for training, skill development and employment, all eyes are trained here.

The Phycare was the first IT firm to function from Mangalagiri. Later PI Data Center and other IT firms joined. On January 17, the minister for IT and panchayat raj Mr N. Lokesh started 16 IT firms at Mangalagiri. Techie Mr D. Chandra said that majority youth and students of the Krishna, Guntur and coastal districts used to go Hyderabad and Bengaluru for employment. He recalled that training and placement in java, SAP, DotNet, testing tools, networking to mobile applications were all offered in Ameerpet of Hyderabad so it became a favourite destination of the AP youth to fulfil their dream of getting a software job.

He said that the decision of the AP government about promoting IT in Mangalagiri is a good decision as the young aspirants will upgrade skills and would get trained in their area of specialisation. He said this IT hub at Mangalagiri will help those students and aspirants who are unwilling to go to Hyderabad and Bengaluru for training. The government should now take necessary measures for employment creation.

An IT company head said that IT is the future as all work is linked to computer and mobile programmings including release and close of water supply to farmlands and these IT firms will hone the skills of the aspirants turning them as techies.

HCL Technologies gets government’s nod to set up SEZ in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada

The commerce ministry has approved a proposal of HCL Technologies to set up a new IT special economic zone (SEZ) in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, with a proposed investment of Rs 408.48 crore. The company’s proposal was considered by an inter-ministerial Board of Approval, headed by Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia, at its meeting on June 19.

“The board after deliberations approved the proposal for setting up of the SEZ over an area of 10.43 hectares,” according to minutes of the meeting. The board also approved the cancellation of formal approval given to OSE Infrastructure as the developer has not made any significant progress on the project. The company was developing an IT special economic zone in Noida.

SEZs are developed as export hubs and they contribute about 25 per cent in the country’s total exports. Units and developers of these zones enjoy tax and non-fiscal benefits besides clearance from a single window mechanism. There are 223 operational SEZs with 5,146 units from various sectors such as IT, pharma, textile, food processing, leather, biotechnology and diamond polishing.

Most of these zones are operational in states, including Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The ministry has recently constituted a group, headed by Bharat Forge Chairman Baba Kalyani, to study the SEZ policy.

I am not taking a political stance here. A quick google search reveals some of these companies don’t even have a website leave alone a company address. Something is fishy. Elections coming so they just have to show some companies coming to amravati

They are mostly small desi consultancies in US started by AP people. They usually have their back offices in India with 2-20 staff depending on size. Most of those back offices are normally located in Hyd. In fact, in HYD you have tons of these companies. Of course, they don't employ any software engineers in India, just some low to very low end HR employees. Though small at individual level, on aggregate, such companies provide employment to large number of people with rudimentary skills in computers. Some are moving to AMVT. My cousin and his friends banded together and rented an office building in Mangalagiri last year and everyone shifted part of their operations from Hyd. When they opened, their comapny names got published similarly in newspapers. Most of them are in exploratory mode, meaning lets start in AMVT and see what happens. Though neither substantial nor glamorous, every small bit helps in the present stage. It will also somewhat stop the current situation where every Tom, Dick, and Harry move to Hyd/Bang after getting their degree.
