Wow, what's there currently? So the existing structures will be torn down?

So it will be located between Quiapo Church and Raon? Good luck on that. Trapik pa naman diyan sa area plus marami pang nagiilegal parking.

Edit: It looks like the R. Ma Mon Luk + other electronic stores in Raon will give way for the construction of the tower Yung katabi niyang Globe Electronics Bldg. tsaka ang mga structures na nasa likod ng proposed tower na lang ang matitira.

Nice at least mawala na yung mga illegal vendors dyan..Sobrang sikip ng part na yan ng Quiapo dahil sinakop ng mga illegal vendors yung sidewalk.

.... and LIFE THEATER too, with that art-deco/neoclassical architecture on its facade.

I am not sure about the developer of this project, I was given a flyer re: this project in a bank a few days ago in quiapo. I scanned the QR code in my wechat app and led me to this link.

If I am not mistaken, it was on the news last month that the Life Theatre would be replaced by a hotel by altering its design.

https://lifestyle.inquirer.net/30213...heater-quiapo/

I honestly find this Chinese-owned skyscraper that will rise on that site bland and generic...Is this the new Torre de Manila in the making? Erap cares too much on income but never the history of the city. Disappointing.

Its not that bad tbh. Yes its bland and generic but its far better than anything in that area. Plus its a 33 storey commercial building so it will help revitalize the area and its surrounding businesses, perhaps start a gentrification process.

Demolished na halos lahat ng buildings sa project site. May fence na rin.

I don't know if the historical preservation advocates are going like this development.

What historical preservation? Do you not see the photos? My God that area needs to be razed to the ground and start all over! This building, no matter how generic it is, will do wonders on the area, actually making it a little bit more modern. My only worry is whether there is a bare walled blunder on a side that we are not seeing from the model...

Oh well, I stand corrected for this time. As long it helps the local economy there and reduces the "ghetto"-ness of Quiapo and other areas of crumbliness of Manila in near future, I'm still eager to see the end result despite this skyscraper's typical iconography of capitalism that is profoundly common in cities. Raze every sore thumb present there for the sake of development, but not our relics of our past.
