Hopefully they will clean up the surroundings before it opens, but I doubt it.
It's typical in Morocco, to finish the main structure, but the surroundings (like sidewalks, lights, signs) are still a mess.

i was gladly surprised to see rabat getting as good as any European citiy i'll say even better ( i'm talking about places i've visited , so maybe my jugement is imprecise but massive improvements are there ) , and casablanca is getting better and better ( more greenery , they've fixed the intra urban highway , a lot of avenues and streets all over the place , and even cleanness is improving , i know it's not what we wished for yet , but i already like the efforts done and i think if they continue like that , we'll get some really good cities in the near future . |

But, no, neither Rabat nor any other city in Morocco (at the exception of Tangier or Tetouan) look better than any european city. Because we have to take into account the whole urban area not only the central area. Add to that the fact that you seldom see ferrachas, terrasses occupying the sidewalks there, ... In short, yes we can witness a lot of improvement but it is not yet what we can expect from our country when we have a look at some emerging countries' capitals (Bogota, Lima, Bangkok, ...). Money is not alwways wisely spent: imagine if all the money spent for the unadapted lamp posts in Rabat have been spent instead in fixing the downtown (barriers, flowers, trees, ...). |

Pour continuer sur Casa, je trouve vraiment dommage pour une ville sans grand relief de ne pas avoir mis en place systématiquement des pistes cyclables sur toutes les nouvelles artères. Gestion sans grande vision malheureusement.

To my opinion the problem is always the authorities who are abysmally lazy when it comes to taking their responsibilities and repressing incivilities , in Morocco unfortunately many people , i can say, the majority are not educated and the only mean to make them normal citizens is repression and big fines i have seen people well dressed with sun glasses throwing the cigarettes package in the ground while the bin is just 3 meters far and knowing that it's prohibited to smoke in the train station , i will not speak about people cooking in the beach and throwing everything in the sand afterwards , coffee shops occupying the public area illegally ,... why there are no laws to repress these incivilities and to make people pay very big fines if they do.

The laws exist but the willingness to implement them is not there. It's better to leave all these incivilities "up and running", as it directs our anger toward many directions and avoids being in a situation where all the anger is directed at one person/institution.
Now, going back to the bridge, let's see what happens. I find the messages above to be useless attacks. Let's see how the cleaning process goes before criticising. Finally, if I can also see major improvement in the cleanliness of the city centre in Rabat and Casablanca, it cannot be said of the suburbs that continue to look like a war zone. The infrastructure remains poor and shantytowns prevail on the south of Casablanca (just two blocs away from Morocco Mall). Even downtown, while the large avenues are clean, the smaller streets in Maarif are dirty and in complete disarray. |
