Old College, on Main Street at the head of South College Avenue in Newark. The structure was built in 1834 and was designed by Winslow Lewis, although Lewis was influenced by Charles Bulfinch. Bulfinch, architect of the United States Capitol, may have designed the building himself, as he was commissioned to do so. This commission, and Bulfinch's plans for the layout of the campus, were lost to history. The Greek Revival building was originally part of Newark College, which then became Delaware College, and finally the University of Delaware.
