Old College, on Main Street at the head of South College Avenue in Newark. The structure was built in 1834 and was designed by Winslow Lewis, although Lewis was influenced by Charles Bulfinch. Bulfinch, architect of the United States Capitol, may have designed the building himself, as he was commissioned to do so. This commission, and Bulfinch's plans for the layout of the campus, were lost to history. The Greek Revival building was originally part of Newark College, which then became Delaware College, and finally the University of Delaware. ![]() Yes, down here these are townhouses. These are not to be confused with rowhouses. The main difference, by vernacular definition, is that rowhouses are urban development and older, and townhouses are suburban development and newer. These houses despite, being in the city, are suburban in nature. Lafayette Boulevard is a two-block street with a median, and dead-ends at each end. The development resembles something more from the suburbs. |

Next to Old College on the campus of the University of Delaware in Newark is Recitation Hall. The school building was completed in 1892 and was designed by Furness, Evans and Company. The structure was originally a mixture of Colonial Revival and Queen Anne architecture, a staple of Frank Furness' work. The building was altered in 1963 to Colonial Revival. Recitation Hall was suggested to be demolished under Day & Klauder's plan for the campus in the early 1900s, but was ultimately kept.

New Castle Town Hall, on Delaware Street in New Castle. The town hall was built in 1823, utilizing the head house format common in England. Another head house, circa 1805, still stands in Philadelphia, indicating the connection New Castle had with Philadelphia at the time. Market stalls, located behind the building, were accessed via the arch. The cupola is considered one of the best in Delaware.

Pierre S. duPont Middle School, on 34th Street in the Ninth Ward of Wilmington. The school was built in 1935 with money from philanthropist Pierre S. DuPont, who funded much of Delaware's educational needs in the 1920s and 1930s. Wings of the Colonial Revival school were angled out to maximize sunlight. Originally a high school, the school's teams were named the "Dynamiters" for the product that the DuPont Company had made a fortune on in the 1910s. The school became a middle school in 1978.

No Halloween in Delaware is complete without a trip to Frightland, on US Route 13 at Biddles Corner. The attraction is considered the scariest in Delaware, and one of the scariest on the East Coast.

One of Delaware's best-documented haunted locations is Woodburn, on Kings Highway in Dover. Built in 1798, it was purchased by the state in 1965 to be the Governor's mansion. Governors and their wives have allegedly seen or heard ghosts in the house. One ghost is known to regularly help himself to a decanter of wine at night. Governor Charles Terry had reported about this ghost himself in the 1960s. Another ghost is that of a little girl in a gingham dress. Several guests felt the girl tug on their clothing while attending the inauguration party of Michael Castle in 1985.

The statuary in All Saints Cemetery in suburban Wilmington is distinctive and modern. At least one statue elsewhere in the cemetery, that of the Holy Family, was sculpted by noted Italian sculptor Egidio Giaroli.
