Think these buses are not bought by KSRTC yet ... Just the bus has been lent to KSRTC.

Reason:check out the number plate... It's KA 01 AB XXXX and not F or FA

Longest volvo bus on trial between Bangalore and Mysore

Quote:
BANGALORE: It could well be a journey to cherish - on board a bus with toilet and pantry facilities. To make our travel experience better, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) put on trial the Volvo-made , longest multi-axle air-conditioned bus between Bangalore and Mysore from Tuesday.

The 14.5-metre-long bus is 0.8 metre longer than a multi-axle bus, has around 41 seats, with a toilet and in-house pantry services. The vehicle comes with rear steerable axle for better maneuverability and intelligent gear shift (I-shift ) automated transmission as standard operability.

The first bus will ply between Bangalore and Mysore with a fare fixed at Rs 300. Another is being planned to Chennai.

KSRTC officials said once the trial run is over and the manufacturers are ready with more such buses, the corporation will go ahead with the procurement process for regular trips to Mysore and Chennai. "This may become operational from November," officials said.

Quote:
Employees of various state road transport corporations and the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) have threatened to go on an indefinite stir from September 13, in protest against the government’s unilateral decision to hike wages by 10 per cent, according to the Karnataka Rajya Rasthe Saarige Nigamagala Karmika Sanghagala Janti Samithi.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, KSRTC Staff and Workers Union General Secretary Praveen Kumar said: “We had demanded a tripartite wage settlement pact. We held a Joint Action Committee meeting on April 25, to decide that the management of the four corporations, including BMTC, should not hike our wages unilaterally, but take into consideration various issues of employees. Unfortunately, the government has approved 10 per cent hike for all employees without taking us into consideration.”

The DA should be merged with the basic salary of the employees, just like the way it has been done with the State government employees.

He said that there are over 3,000 drivers, conductors and mechanics across all 32 divisions of the KSRTC and BMTC in the state who were recruited as trainees, in the Corporation but are being made to work on full time basis.

“When these trainees are ‘caught’ for accidents, their training period is extended for a year. The trainee drivers and conductors get a meager stipend of Rs 4,000. Their wage is not hiked. The wages paid for the trainee should also be hiked. At the same time, in all the divisions, the drivers and conductors are made to work in double shift without weekly off. However, no OT is given for them,” he said.

The Samithi said the trainees should be given their probationary certificate and due salary instead of the meager stipend of Rs 4,000.

As a part of the state-wide stir, there will be a token protest by the employees in front of Gulbarga Corporation on September 7, at Hubli on September 8 and at Bangalore on September 10.

Stating that the KSRTC Mangalore division is incurring loss following the introduction of Volvo buses, he said “there are over 120 Volvo buses and the fare is not competitive. The private buses charge varying fare during weekends and week days, which we can not do. The cost for running Volvo buses are more than the ordinary buses,” Kumar said.

Kumar said that introduction of buses to routes such as Panaji besides others by withdrawing ‘Rajahamsa’ execuitive buses have been causing losses to the Mangalore division. “We have been requesting the top officials not to introduce more Volvo buses as the already introduced Volvo services have caused losses. Withdrawing Rajahamsa buses and replacing them with Volvo services have not worked in our favour,” Kumar said.

Introduction of new Parisara Vahini buses should be given priority instead, he added.

Country’s longest inter-city bus rolls out

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Tuesday flagged off the country’s longest (14.5 mts) inter-city Volvo multi-axle bus.

After launching the service, Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka said that the idea behind the long coach bus was to support efficient mass bus-based transport system, with economic utilisation of resource.

“We want to take the passenger comfort to a new level while travelling in KSRTC buses.

This Volvo 9400PX bus will ply between Bangalore and Mysore on a pilot basis and will be expanded to Bangalore-Chennai, Bangalore-Tirupati, Bangalore-Pune, Bangalore-Hyderabad, Bangalore-Panaji and other routes.

The bus also has an in-built pantry and a chemical toilet. For the Bangalore-Mysore route, the fare will be Rs 300,” he said.

The 41-seater has in-built television sets fitted in the back of each seat. Besides, mobile chargers are attached to each row.

A hatrack, a wash basin, a big size pantry, a coffee maker, a refrigerator along with a steerable rear tag-axle for better manoeuvrability, enhanced stability and larger luggage space are its other features.

The Transport Department has been plying a 14.5-mt bus with a passenger capacity of 110 for the last six weeks on the Outer Ring road in Bangalore.

BMTC MD K Srinivas said that the response was good and they were planning to introduce these buses on select routes.

KSRTC staff to go on strike from Sept 13
Bangalore, Sep 4, 2012, DHNS :
Employees of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRT) have decided to go on an indefinite strike from September 13, urging for fulfilment of their various demands.

The government’s apathy towards their problems has forced them to resort to the protest, said B Jayadevaraje Urs, the convener of the joint committee of various unions.

The unions said that when they threatened to go on strike from April 27 this year, the government made false promise that it would address their grievances sympathetically.

There is no dialogue between the employees and the management since 1996 and the employees are given very meagre hike every year, which is far less than the profit the corporation earns every year.

As usual Karnataka shows the way. How does KSRTC decide on the drivers for such buses? Experience, special training from Volvo..or both?

‘Volvo replacements of Rajahamsa buses have caused losses to KSRTC’

Mangalore, September 4: Introduction of Volvo buses by withdrawing ‘Rajahamsa’ services on certain routes have caused losses to the KSRTC in Mangalore division, Praveen Kumar, General Secretary, KSRTC Joint Committee of Workers’ Unions, Mangalore, said.

Addressing mediapersons at Press Club in Mangalore on Tuesday, Mr. Kumar said that introduction of buses to routes such as Panaji besides others by withdrawing ‘Rajahamsa’ executive buses have been causing losses to the Corporation’s Mangalore division. “We have been requesting the top brass not to introduce more Volvo buses as the already introduced Volvo services have caused losses. The private bus operators keep changing the rates while our rates remain the same and hence KSRTC fails to attract passengers. Withdrawing Rajahamsa buses and replacing them with Volvo services have not worked in our favour”, Mr. Kumar said, voicing the concern of the KSRTC workers on the occasion.

Introduction of new Parisara Vahini buses should be given priority instead, Mr. Kumar opined. “For long, people have been nursing a notion that KSRTC buses are sub-standard in quality but the recently introduced Parisara Vahini buses have evoked good responses from public. In routes such as Mudupi where these new buses have been introduced, there is a good public response. However, private bus workers and conductors have been troubling us in these routes ever since our new buses have started plying there”, he said.

‘Workers being exploited’

Mr. Kumar said that KSRTC workers are being exploited by the Corporation’s administrative authorities. “We have been experiencing injustice and exploitation in terms of less salaries, unjustified punishments, inhuman behaviour with workers, besides others for the past 16 years. We are made to work overtime but no extra pay is given to us. Some workers who hail from North Karnataka take long leaves and go back to their villages and we are made to do double the amount of work in their absence”, Mr. Kumar groused.

The Workers’ Union will go on an indefinite strike on September 13 demanding fulfillment of its various demands, Mr. Kumar informed.

Bangalore, Sep 5 (TruthDive): Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), the first and longest bus ever launched in the country with a facility of chemical toilet and pantry with a seating arrangement of forty-one people as well as 14.5 metre long has been inaugurated by the Deputy chief minister and transport minister R Ashoka in Bangalore.

After the inauguration took place the minister said that the bus on a trial basis will travel between Bangalore, Mysore, Chennai, Hyderabad and other places for three months. According to its usage, further decision will be taken on expanding the services of these buses.

“Already, mutli-facility buses Airavat Bliss and Airavat Superia have got good response from the commuters. KSRTC is planning to introduce more of these buses,” said the minister.

Meanwhile the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has already launched long and multi-axle buses on Bangalore-Mysore route. The cost of the ticket will be Rs300 and is likely to be extended to Bangalore-Chennai route soon.

The government of Karnataka had also asked the BMTC and the KSRTC to reduce the pass amount and also directed to repay the amount to those who got the pass at pre-reduction rates from BMTC.

The repayment can be obtained from all the counters of the bus stations of BMTC across the city. The announcement of repayment on student pass was welcomed by many students who have been travelling in the public bus.

The corporation has decided to pay the money back to students who have been issued passes for the academic year 2012-13 from September7.

Students who possess ten month pass will be receiving Rs 200 as repayment and the students who possess five month pass will be getting Rs 100.

For school students who have ten months pass will be receiving Rs125 repayment and the last date to benefit this scheme will be Sep 13. College students can gain this benefit from Sep 14 to Sep 22.

The evening college students can obtain the repayment amount between September 24 and 30. All the students are requested to submit a photocopy of the student pass and produce the original at the respective counters while repayment. The repayment amount will be noted by punching of hologram of the student pass.
