Aah the building in the first picture is 134 (?) Edmund Street. I think it's beautiful, just a pain in the arse to photograph in it's entirety.

They kept the facade of the Victorian building and then built the rest of the building behind it.

Yeh, around 2002 I think. Before the most recent update, you could see it being built on Google Earth. Not sure if you can still see it - I don't think you can.

Checked my Pevsner, here is the description.
Quote:
No. 134 of 1897 by Newton & Cheattle for G.J. Eveson, whose initials appear above the ground floor. ... Lots of jolly moulded ornament on swinging balcony-like bands between the floors.
Nos. 136-138 are Venetian Gothic of c.1875 and must be by J.H. Chamberlain. Arcaded ground floor with a gabled doorway breaking the cornice ... A new block behind Nos. 134-138 by Associated Architects, 2004, aggressively cantilevered, has made them into little more than a grand porch.
Nos. 140-146 is by Jonathan Wingfield of WSM architects, 2000. Minimalist blue-tinted glass facade, but dominating top canopy.

Any Photos squarer on to the front of the two buildings with the Retained Facades ?
The Right hand all glass one looks very recent?

It might mean the bit behind this. I can't remember what it looks like. I'll dig around to see if I have any pics of it.

I really wish I'd explore Five Ways more. It is really an economic centre but it is so under-photographed. It has a good range of architecture and a good history. Come summer, I'll be drawing me a plan of where to go and I'll take enough photographs to give me a collection at Central Library!
