It seems there is a discrepancy over the exact route of G22 between Liaocheng and Handan. Shandong considers the Southern route to be G22 and the Northern a provincial expressway, while Hebei considers it the other way round. As a result there is a discontinuity on the Qingdao-Lanzhou expressway upon reaching the Shandong/Hebei border, where it jumps from one expressway to the other.

Further East, there is a gap on G22 which puzzles me why still exists (In fact I consider it the last major gap on the Chinese expressway network): the section between Laiwu (now a suburb of Jinan) and Tai'an. There's an expressway between these two places, but strangely it is marked as a provincial one instead of a section of the Qingdao-Lanzhou. I wonder where G22 is planned to go in that area.

Would these be S roads and can a road be both an S and a G road at the same time 'concurrence' I think this is called.

There is some kind of reconstruction project between Laiwu and Tai'an. This appears to be a rerouting of S26 to make G22 in this area a more fluid east-west route. It is supposed to be completed in 2020.

It's actually Lüzhijiang, with diaeresis. It is added to lü and nü in order to distinguish them from plain lu and nu, and this indicates a "French" U is to be pronounced instead of a regular U (A French U is also found in the ju-qu-xu series and the standalone yu, however they don't require disambiguaton as the j-q-x series is never followed by a regular U, and a standalone regular U is written "wu"). However I prefer the alternate spelling with V as otherwise that letter goes unused in Pinyin.

Is it just me or that merging on the right looks really bad and potentially dangerous? Specifically the left lane of the slip road where it joins the main road.

That is called a taper merge. Some (many?) countries don't use those at all, or only for exits.

I would say this one is too short.

The photo almost doesn't look real though...

The ramp should be one lane instead of 2-lane to make it safer.

this should be its location on GE
28°48'14.89"N 115°51'3.33"E

The picture should be shot from the overpass on the SW. However, GE shows it was shot at 9/8/2019, a month ahead of the opening. And we can see more signs on the lanes to mark turns and slow-down on the exit side.

A 39.231 kilometer section of S71 Huarong-Changning Expressway (previously named as Nanxian-Yiyang Expressway) opens to traffic today. This section includes 814.1 meters cable-stayed Dongting South Bridge (main span of 450 meters). The whole route of Nanxian-Yiyang Expressway is 86.724 km. The south part was opened in Dec 2018, and rest north part will be opened by the end of 2019.

It seems that every province except Tibet is building 8 lane expressways. Qinghai province will open its first 8-lane expressway this year. It is Zhamalong (Xining) to Datanghe expressway (Zha-Dao Expressway, part of G6 Beijing-Tibet Expressway), a new expressway parallel to current Zhamalong-Datanghe 1st grade highway. It is 65.2 km long, with 17.34 km 8-lane from Zhamalong in Xining to Huanyuan south, and 47.86 km 6-lane from Huangyuan county to Datanghe.

It just seems. I still have to find any expressway in the process of being widened to 2x4 in either Shanxi (the first tone one to the East), Hubei, or Hunan.

There is 8-lane expressway in Shanxi already. A very short section of Changzhi-Handan Expressway around Licheng ( 36°31'52.67"N 113°23'7.41"E). And JinYang Expressway is under 4->8 expansion.
https://xw.qq.com/cmsid/20190717A03WUD00

Wuhan 4th ring expressway is 8-lane expressway. Part of it around Dunkou Yangtse River Bridge ( 30°26'3.26"N 114°11'7.98"E) opened in 2017, part of it will open by the end of 2019.

Beijing-Hong Kong Expressway in Hubei part is going to expand to 8 lane soon.

Hunan sounds no plan to have 8-lane expressway yet.

Another 4->8 expressway is built and will open soon in Guangxi. It is Nanning-Qinzhou-Fangchenggang section of G75.
