One of those smelly man-made sewage canals. Can anyone shed some light as to what those cement 'rivers' are, and why they seem ubiquitous in Chinese cities?

Most chinese cities are low lying and exposed to regular flooding especially cities in the pearl river delta,so its probably for flood control.

What a huge disappointment, it won't even be the tallest tower in the whole complex

Wow Chinese overplanning again.

Since when does an office district need a sports park?

That is not overplanning. Instead it's thinking about how to improve the quality of life for office workers, hence having a park and sport facilities is a good idea!
