It needs some upgrading. But it potentially could claim the first spots once again.

Just wait till the US beats Mexico in a WCQ. That place will be burned to the ground!

One of my favourite stadiums, simply amazing. It's true that could need an upgrade but it is a classic and any other sytadium in the world would like to have it's history

That is my idea too. Although the renovated and modernised Camp Nou will also come close for first place with the expected 106.000 seats. Also a very impressive and beautiful stadium. If that renovation and modernisation takes place as planned, Azteca will loose its crown to Camp Nou. But with a big renovation plan equal to the Barcelona plans, it could be a neck-on-neck race between the two again!

I for sure would have difficulties then to choose between the two. Although initially I always liked Azteca a bit better. I am not that fond of the asymmetrical looks of the stands in Camp Nou! That would give the renovated Azteca the edge over Camp Nou for me.

I agree that if Estadio Azteca goes under refurbishment it will claim the 1st place over the renovated Nou Camp, and I say that despite being a F.C.Barcelona fan

I personally believe it is one of the most beatiful stadiums in the world..
of course it needs some remodelation, however if it's done it would be one of the most beatiful historic stadiums..

I always will think of Mexico 86 when I think of the Azteca. I always wondered though what caused the weird shadow on the pitch? see link

The speakers of the stadium hang in the middle of the field.. and in that moment the organizers attached some decoration to them so the shadow looks like a star.

i wouln't mind as a America FC fan, also as a mexican (Azteca is the unoficial homeground for the mexican team) that after a deep renovation, ends up as a 95,000 stadium.

Honestly, it is very rare to see sell outs, only the main WC qualifiers, and America FC, continental competitions, and mexican league playoffs.

maybe they can compensate a couple of thousend seats at the top

but more important, the field should be lowered, so you can have seats closer to the field, and to have a better view, now that the advertising era has arrived, the view from the first 4-6 rows is really bad. if you look closely, even for the NFL game the first rows were were not used.
