I thought the original price tag for the project at R1.3billion seemed a little low. This seems much more on target, if one thinks that they're completely redoing the airport minus runways, R2.2billion is a good price. My God, a redone international airport is cheaper than a stadium!

Construction Update: 29 Nov 2008

Airside extension for domestic airbridges...

Terminal 2010 from the domestic side...

Pictures of Terminal 2010...

Towards the new multi-storey parkade opposite international terminal...

Just a cool pic I like of the current parkade and the ramps... The new one will look similar.

I really am starting to dig this airport, even with all the construction you still get a feeling that its going to be a simple and efficient airport not all over the place with 1 building here and an extension there... it all seems to flow, going to be a beautiful airport

Guy asked in the international aviation thread if we had a map of CTIA 2010 developments. Well, haven't seen one from ACSA that's updated for Terminal 2010, so I tried to compile one, may not be the best or most accurate. Make suggested amendments if you wish...

Where exactly will the Public Transit plaza be? Is it just to the west of the CTB, with the rail-link heading north from there to the west of the new northern Multi-storey Parkade? The ExecuJet Terminal, isn't that off to the south near Thunder City off the scope of the aerial image?

I'll have to go take a closer look at the northern end of the current International Terminal. I thought that was where they were putting in the new A380 airbridges? Hope it is so... think Harkeb or someone placed a rendering of this "A380 Pier" a while ago, but nobody knew which airport it belonged to or where it was at any respective airport. Think Mo just provided our answer... yay... More airbridges and capacity for CTIA!!!

whats the possibility of a second runway being build for CTIA?

From the pic above it seems there is enough space for one, or does runways have to be a certain distance apart from each other? or am i missing the boundries of the Airport?

the new runway is part of the next phase. its not needed right now.

i think its about 1 runway per 15-20 million passengers. barajas has three and has an airport capacity of about 70 mill.

but im not the expert!!

Ground floor of new parkade opens

December 18, 2008
New parking bays at airport a welcome relief for public
Staff Writer (Cape Times)

Four hundred new parking bays will be opened to the public at Cape Town International Airport today, offering some welcome relief to airport users and passengers.

Airports Company South Africa at Cape Town International made the announcement in a statement yesterday.

The bays are located on the ground floor of a second multi-storey parkade that is currently under construction and will eventually increase the airport's parking capacity by 4 000 bays.

"Once the 400 bays on the ground floor are made available it will be the access point for pedestrians heading toward the (international terminal)," said Acsa Cape Town spokes-person Deidre Hendricks.

"Airport users will be assisted by Acsa volunteers in familiarising themselves with the new routes to the terminals. Volunteers will be clearly visible in their orange 'How can I help you?' T-shirts," Hendricks said.

"While we are very excited about gaining these additional bays, we are well aware that for the first week or so, our airport users will need to orientate themselves, particularly in line with the change of route for pedestrians accessing the International Terminal."

The international terminal will be accessible from the new multi-storey parkade, while the domestic terminal can be accessed from the existing multi-storey parkade.

Hendricks said Acsa's operations team had been "working hard" to ensure that today's opening goes smoothly.

Acsa Cape Town International Airport said in its statement that it was encouraging airport users to arrive early at the airport, particularly during this "peak period" to orientate themselves and check in on time.

I only realized when seeing the aerial plans that the new parkade is very very large!
