Thumbs up WOW!!

This thread is great. i found it whilst searching google for london tower blocks, and really appreciate the pictures and knowledge of where they are...and i just had to sign up! so this is my first post . my boyfriend is from london and since being with him since last august i have become fasinated with londons culture - from the accent music and dress sense, to housing estates and shops. i love it. i am 18 and he is 16 and i want to move their so much i am concentrating at college so i can get a spot at a london uni (hopefully thames valley) to study sociology - as i would love a career working with and wrting about youth culture in londons toughest boroughs. this thread and all the pics are fantastic. thanks!!

London is a very funny city because ghettos and posh places are right next to
each other. For instance some of the roughest and most deprived parts of London such as Ladbroke Grove,Kilburn,Hackney,Brixton and many more have the grittiest estates ever known but you can still find some unbelievabely posh sections of the area if you look.

Yes,same with Newham, you're in East Ham and everything is old and quite rough,in the same borough,Beckton is quite nice and modern..although sometimes smelly.

Long time!

It seems a long time since anyone posted on this thread. OK I have only just found it and it's fascinating. I was looking for info on Alton Estate, Roehampton and discovered this. It is a valuable record of the buildings, failures and successes, of the time and they still dominate the London skyline.

And now we have the future of Robin Hood Gardens in the balance. Is it worth conserving or starting again. Many architects feel it is a seminal building of Alison and Peter Smithson. As an architect I am ambivelent about its future and the debate has unfortunately become emotive. Any thoughts?

Hi, Batleur, if you wanna join a HUGE thread and conversation about British Tower Blocks and topics about them, then take a look at this: https://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=408485. This thread has at the moment 111 pages.
And as an architect, perhaps you are interested in brutal and brutal concrete buildings? https://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=542259.
