Since I was indirectly forced to move to a non-socialist, capitalistic country called Bavaria (remark; this is not Germany!), I will provide you here with some pictures of Munich's Plattenbau. Adhering to standards I am also living in a 4 storey commieblock here in Munich. On a first stroll in my neighbourhood named Forstenried I could spot following interesting type of west-german commieblock:

I plan also to visit the Olympiadorf or Munich - Neuperlach, Munichs biggest commieblock area. At some places in Munich you wouldn't even recognize that you are currently in a west-german city, sometimes it looks like Bauhaus paradise, but this Olympiadorf has a sort of Moscow feeling to me. Although I have never visited Moscow, I imagine Moscow to be like this: huge, huge commieblocks with a very clangorous inner courtyard which feels like cage since it is surrounded by these huge blocks. Horrible! You will find out soon what I am trying to say...be patient

a few of my "Olympiadorf" shots are in the german section "Hochheiten von München", all are shot from the BMW Word & Museum.

Planed to go to Neuperlach too

Looking for commieblocks in Chemnitz - Wohngebiet „Fritz Heckert“ formely known as Karl-Marx-Stadt.

source: http://www.welt.de/reise/article1102...arx_Stadt.html

Starting with Karl Marx:

Turning to commies paradise - „Fritz Heckert“ Wohngebiet
A dozens of blocks have been pulled down. But we will see how the newly generated space has been used wisely and has been treated as a chance to try something new.

They look very clean, perhaps complete lack of illegal built-up adds to the impression

Btw do you know why this commie in the back have so many "kitchen" windows?
http://imageshack.us/a/img545/6087/sam3790e.jpg

It's quite weird if you think about it

Illegal built-ups are never allowed in Germany due to disturbance of the appearance of such a block. One block has always look to uniform. Back in the days this principle was also valid for the appearance of a whole neighborhood but one has dropped it, it is only rarely seen.

If you take a closer look, you will see that only every third floor has those "kitchen" windows. I guess it has something to do, that this type of block does not have any cellars. So this type of block has been built with possibilities of storage every third floor.

That's probably more convenient. I thought it might be a shopping floor or something similar but I guess this building is too small for something like that.
