I have just browsed through that polish thread and it seems if polish achritects had much freedom in their conceptions. Warszawa already looked really extremely futuristic in the 60s or 70s yet. Of course there was a lot of space for modern architecture after world war 2. How much percentage did the germans destroy of warszawa? Does it also have something like a remembrance day of the destruction? You must know that Dresden holds every a year an event where it remembers all the german "victims" esspecially those from Dresden. And all these old-new-Nazis just forget about the responsibility of german actions in ww2. Poland might know the name "Erika Steinach". So you could have an imagination how many germans do not accpet the border between Germany and Poland....there are a lot of! a fatal development in our society.

Socrealist period have ended somewhere around 1956 so they had freedom but not always money...

Here are some old pics from Novi Sad, Serbia:
Building a new central city axis back in the '60. The old village-type matrix was replaced with modern boulevard which was alinged with commies and offices:

Building of Liman back in the '60 - the oldest commie borough and now the most urbanized part of the city with density of more than 15k per sq.km:

And some random:

If this is not the first commie in Novi Sad (1930)

than definitely this one from the 1940 is

How was the picture of commieblocks back in the days? Can the high acceptance be reduced to communist dictatorship or could the people really feel some of the architect's notions as a start into a new era of mankind? I guess there is a slight difference between east and west europe of course. In east europe it is common to live in a commieblock to a large amount of people, so I would doubt if they would turn into enemies of such a style of architecture. Or have the opinions of these inhabitants (in east europe) also undergone some changes?

For many people they offered higher standard of living with with batrooms, gas and all necessary utilities not to mention lots of sunlight and green areas on the other hand there was always some kind of opposition to this kind of housing many people didn't like it because they associate it with communism some just don't like modernism... but we don't really have any social problems with commieblocs in Warsaw some of the best parts are commieblock districs like Ursynów my district Bemowo is also not bad at all.

Speaking about differences I think planning was one of the biggest in the west it was very auto-centric in the east it was of course impossible due to lower car ownership so public communication had to be better.

Those commies from the 60's and early 70's are not bad, not bad at all. They have a certain modernistic/futuristic touch to them unlike ugly depressive monsters from the late 70's and the 80's. Here is two from Kiev (Ukraine):
