PHL population increases by 2 million every year, POPCOM says
Published July 11, 2019 5:41pm
By KAELA MALIG, GMA News

Quote:
More than two million people are added to the Philippine population every year, the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) said on Thursday.

According to the estimates of the United Nations Population Division, the country's population standing is at 108 million, making the Philippines the 13th most populous country in the world.

Even though the growth rate has declined to 1.76% annually, POPCOM said that the country's population is expected to double in the next 39 years.

POPCOM Executive Director Juan Antonio Perez III said that two million is still such a big number compared to other countries.

He said, "Almost two million na nadadagdag natin. Compare mo sa Thailand where they only add 200,000 a year, South Korea adds 200,000 a year."

"So ang resources na kailangan to support 2 million Filipinos who are added to the population every year impacts on the government's resources and the communities' resources," he added. — LA, GMA News

500 Filipino teenagers give birth every day, says POPCOM director
Published July 11, 2019 6:09pm
By KAELA MALIG, GMA News

Quote:
Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) Executive director Undersecretary Juan Antonio Perez III said that around 500 Filipino teenagers give birth every day.

During the World Population Day Forum on Tuesday, Perez said that around 196,000 teenagers aged 15 to 19 years old give birth every year.

According to POPCOM's press statement, women aged 15 to 19 years old who have given birth or were pregnant with their first child have increased since the 1990's.

From just 6.5% back in 1993, it jumped to 8.6% in 2017.

Perez said that teen pregnancies could have been caused by exposure to the internet.

You have the content doon na walang filter," he added.

Filipino women are having fewer children, study says
Published July 11, 2019 5:47pm
By KAELA MALIG, GMA News

Quote:
From an average of 4.1 children back in 1993, the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) learned that Filipino women in 2017 were found to have only 2.7 children.

At the World Population Day Forum on Thursday, POPCOM Executive Director Undersecretary Juan Antonio Perez III attributed this decline to educational and economic change.

He said, "Women who stayed longer in school really became more responsible towards their family and nagbabago 'yung attitude nila towards children."

"Women are deciding on their own because of their own situation that they only want, at most, 3 children. What we are doing is we are helping those women who have made those decisions by providing them the family planning services that will work," he added.

POPCOM's study cited the National Demographic and Health Survey in 2017, which said only 40% of married Filipino women are using modern methods of family planning.

Perez said that his department hopes that there will be four million new acceptors of the family planning program and that 65% of married women and women in union will be using modern family methods by the end of President Duterte's administration.

If this happens, Perez said, the government will avert 2 million abortions and 2.4 million unplanned pregnancies, as well as save 600 lives of women every year who would've died from child birth. — LA, GMA News

Fertility Rate is a double edge sword. In Japan, it is already a big head ache where they area always discussing where will the pension come from. This is going to be a big problem with China soon. I think it will be a problem of PH in 50 years, hopefully we are already rich that time.

I rather have that kind of scenario you mentioned above than seeing fellow Filipinos right now who are living in SUB HUMAN conditions..

Like this:

This just breaks my heart..

You know why I spend so much time here on SSC? It started actually when I saw that little girl on the street pushing a kariton with her siblings on it.. carrying with her their youngest sister. And the cycle will continue.

I promised to do something about it..even just in my own little way.

1 fertility rate is impossible within this time frame. 2 is feasible, and is also the most optimal number(2.1j because it’s the replacement rate. Thus there won’t be any demographic crisis in the near future, and by the time there might be an issue with aging demographics, we have robots to care for the elderly

Maraming factors sa pagbaba ng fertility rate..

More empowered women
LGBT
Modern family planning
Cost of living lalo na sa pagkakaroon ng anak
Migration

Fertility is really about women. Whatever happens to the women that we have, means a lot in how fertility rates behave, IMHO.
