IN PHOTOS: World-class materials that will be used for the construction of the Clark International Airport new terminal is on its way to the Philippines. BCDA with its partner Megawide-GMR recently had a factory acceptance test in Vienna, Austria, and Italy to inspect the glulam (glued laminated timber) and aluminium roofing for the new terminal.

Austrian firm, Rubner Holzbau already shipped the glulam trusses for the wood portion of the roof which is inspired by the Zambales mountain range.

Megawide-GMR also collaborated with ISCOM SPA for the 47,000-square meter wavy roof surface. Italian firm ISCOM SPA, was among the pioneers in the use of aluminum alloys for roofing and cladding. It also provided the roof of the Mactan International Airport in Cebu, and other airports in Italy, France, Turkey, Jamaica, and Egypt.

The materials sourced from these leading European engineering firms are envisioned to add elegance to the design of the Clark International Airport while making the structure sound and stable.

1.6 kilometer Tagum Flyover Project (longest flyover in visayas - mindanao)

Quote:
Construction update of the 1.6 kilometer Tagum Flyover Project , which is set to be finished this 2020. This will surely benefit not only Tagum, but also the neighboring municipalities and cities . Vehicles from neighboring municipalities and cities can go to their destinations without crossing the busiest intersection in the city.

Yes. It is Tagum city. The capital city of the province of Davao Del Norte. Not sure if it will be the longest in the entire Vismin but I always read in the news that it is. True or not, this project is good for the city.

Part of the country i have never been to, i have only got to the north of Mindanao but anyway it would be nice to visit this place someday, looking at Tagum city on google maps there seems to be a small road called Timog avenue going half way around it, imo they should go one further and future proof the city by turning this road into at least a full 4 lane ring road highway, which should complement and complete city infrastructure like this fly over, ideally it should go all the way around as well altho parts of it already is .

This is also something that is missing in a lot of these small to medium sized towns and cities across the country, i understand that there are reasons for this such as lack of funds or even perhaps a pressing need for it, but there is a pressing need to future proof these cities given the lack of discipline or organization in the country when it comes to urban planning, if these cities do wait 1 or 2 decades when there will be a need for such infrastructure it would be too late as the available lands would have already been occupied by urban sprawls, so imo the government national and or local should enact binding legislation or policies to start earmarking or reserving the outlines of such ring roads around their towns and cities .

Quote:
A ring road (also known as beltline, beltway, circumferential (high)way, loop or orbital) is a road or a series of connected roads encircling a town, city, or country. The most common purpose of a ring road is to assist in reducing traffic volumes in the urban centre, such as by offering an alternate route around the city for drivers who do not need to stop in the city core.

I fully agree. Without DIDP (Davao Integrated Development Plan) which acts as a Davao region NEDA/MMDA, projects such as the flyover in Tagum city and Panabo city will have a hard time approved and implemented. More needs to be done. But so far, I am satisfied with the way the region and DIDP is addressing the immediate and future needs of the Davao.

PH to launch second micro satellite ‘Diwata 2’ into space on Oct. 29 2018

Quote:
PASAY CITY, Philippines – The Philippines will launch its second micro satellite “Diwata 2” into space on Monday (October 29).

Secretary Fortunato dela Peņa of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will travel to Japan to personally witness the launching of the satellite.

The historic release can also be viewed simultaneously live at the University of the Philippines.

Secretary Dela Peņa said government agencies will benefit from the images and information that Diwata 2 will capture specifically those related to agriculture, natural resources, climate as well as navigational security as it can monitor illegal entry of shipping vessels into the country’s territory.

Diwata-2 is equipped with the latest technology that enables it to take images of the Philippines and across the globe as well as an amateur radio unit necessary for emergency or disaster response.

The micro satellite will also help in post assessment of areas affected by calamities.

“Diwata 2 will have the capability of being used also for some kind of radio communication particularly when an emergency arises,” Dela Peņa said.

The DOST has already installed ground station in Luzon and will setup similar facility in Visayas and Mindanao.

It was developed by Filipino scientists with the help of experts from universities in Japan.

Wow it's very beautiful how Metro Manila has many CBDs. Even New York City only has two CBDs Midtown and Lower Manhattan.
