Mahindra, Kiran Energy May Get IFC Loan for India Solar Project

Quote:
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (MM), the biggest Indian maker of sports-utility vehicles, and its partner Kiran Energy Solar Power Pvt. may get $26 million from the investment arm of the World Bank to build three electricity plants.

International Finance Corp.’s board is expected to meet on May 30 to study a proposal to offer the rupee debt to Mahindra Solar One, a joint venture 26 percent-held by Mahindra and 74 percent by Kiran, a proposal summary on IFC’s website shows.

The venture plans to build two 20-megawatt solar plants and a 10-megawatt project in Rawra village, Rajasthan state, for $105 million, according to the summary. It already operates a 5- megawatt plant nearby, also partly IFC funded, with a power transmission line that would be shared by the proposed projects.

Kiran, with investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, is based in Mumbai and runs 20 megawatts of solar capacity in Gujarat. Bessemer was an early funder of Skype Technologies SA.

Mahindra Solar One plans 50 MW of PV for India

Quote:
According to a summary of investment (SII), prepared by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the company is proposing to build three ground-mounted photovoltaic power plants in the Indian state.

Mahindra Solar One subsidiary, Mahindra Suryaprakash Ltd will execute two plants, worth 20 MW and 10 MW, respectively. A third, worth 10 MW, will be undertaken by Solarfield Energy Two Private Ltd, a subsidiary of Kiran Energy Ltd. Since Kiran Energy is also said to be a shareholder of Mahindra Solar One, the two companies will reportedly develop the three projects "in close cooperation".

Overall, project costs are expected to amount to US$105 million. "The proposed IFC investment is for local currency A Loans totaling about $26 million-equivalent. Of this, around USS$15.9 million-equivalent is proposed to be lent to Mahindra Suryaprakash, and the balance US$10.1 million-equivalent to Solarfield Two," said IFC on its website. It adds that the plants will be located on adjoining tracts of land, and will use similar technology.

Rajasthan villages may get 24-hour power supply

Quote:
All villages in Rajasthan are likely to get 24-hour power supply by March next year with the installation of 550 KV Grid stations across the State. For every three village panchayats, a 33 KV sub-station is being constructed, while 132 KV sub-stations would be established wherever needed.

State Energy Minister Jitendra Singh said over the weekend that these would be the “encouraging results” of multi-pronged power sector reforms in production, transmission and distribution.

Rajasthan had emerged as a leading State in the power sector, he added.

Addressing a function at Aravalli Educational and Research Institute at Neem Ka Thana in Sikar district, Mr. Singh said while the farmers were being supplied with electricity at the rate of 90 paise per unit, solar energy was emerging as the new sphere in which the State would make some major achievements in near future.

The Minister sought the cooperation of rural and agricultural consumers in reducing the transmission and distribution losses and said the power saved in this manner would support the State's growth.

Super...wonder why Gehlot is not doing the same kind of publicity as Gujarat (where 1MW solar plants are also publicized)

Rajasthan must become the prime mover in renewable sources of energy..

Srivatsa, my feeling is that on the whole the Rajasthan government performance has been pretty good, definitely better than the previous government. Be it Jaipur Metro, Jaipur ring road, Ghat ki Ghuni, Gurjar ki thadi, Jodhpur ring road, AIIMS, IIT, IIM, Central varsity, underpasses they have taken steps to build infrastructure in Jaipur and even other cities too. However, they have not received much publicity.

PR Fonroche to invest Rs. 800 cr in solar energy

Quote:
PR Fonroche, a joint-venture between Mumbai-based PR Clean Energy and Paris-based Fonroche Energie, is set to invest Rs. 800 crore in India this year to develop solar power plants with a total capacity of 100-150 MW.

The company will commission 20 MW solar plant - built by Mahindra EPC - in Rajasthan with an investment of $42 million ( Rs. 229 crore) next week.
Pratap Raju, joint managing director, PR Fonroche said the company plans to participate in two NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) tenders in mid-2013 for 50 MW and the upcoming Andhra Pradesh state government tender for 10 MW solar power plants.

PR Fonroche also plans to bid for setting up 50 MW capacity under the scheme proposed by Solar Energy Corporation of India.

The company will bid for another 7.5 MW under Rooftop PV and Small Solar Power Generation Programme (RPSSPG), another scheme sponsored by ministry of renewable energy that is meant to start projects in regions with relatively low solar energy generation potential such as northeast, J&K and Goa.

Apart from these states and central government schemes, the company looks to develop solar power projects for private sector too.

"Many companies using diesel generator sets want to replace them with solar power. We have already got a 10 MW project for a pharmaceutical company," Raju said.

"We are in talks with a steel manufacturer to set up 10 MW plant to help the company meet its renewable purchase obligation and a pharma company for a 20 MW plant."
