Rajasthan's first road tunnel in Jaipur

Quote:
JAIPUR: To ease routine traffic jams on the Jaipur-Agra highway, a four-lane road tunnel would be constructed in the city, a government official
said here on Sunday.

The first such project in the city will come up at Ghat-ki-Guni, the entrance to the Pink City, and will be executed under BOT (built, operate and transfer) basis and cost Rs 150 crore.

"About 647-metre long tunnel with four lanes, four km of new roads, fly overs, toll plaza and petrol pump will be built within 30 months by a private firm Rohan Rajdeep Company of Maharashtra," OSD and Advisor to the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) Babulal Gupta said today.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will lay the foundation stone of project on October 13, he said.

RRC would be able to impose toll tax on vehicles for 13 years, five months and 20 days, and there after it would have to transfer it to JDA, he said.

Its a 2-in-1 hotel. Half of it is a business hotel (the tower) and the other half takes advantage of the site contours and is an open desert resort like environment with cottages. Somewhat like the Taj westend in Bangalore.

You are right. Jaipur is not in the desert. The cities in the desert are: Bikaner, Barmer, Jaisalmer....

With construction scheduled to commence in 2010, Forrec was commissioned to design a 30 acre retail/entertainment destination as part of an overall 400 acre resort plan. The various components—including a 400 room hotel— are connected by a series of plazas, terraces and streets. An 800,000 sq. ft. mall and 200,000 sq. ft. entertainment complex form the central hub and landmark of the resort.
